heroes – yeah, I’m finally on the bandwagon

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

I DVR’ed the Heroes marathon on Sci-Fi 11/29…and I’m just now starting to watch the episodes. The first one was a little draggy but I got hooked in by the darn cheerleader, and despite telling myself I would go to bed as soon as that episode was over, I had to start watching the 2nd episode so that I could find out what happened when Pete jumped off the roof. I’m knitting a scarf for someone (consider it my random act of kindness for the week!) while I watch, and I have to make sure I don’t get distracted by the show and screw up a row in my knitting!

(Oh, and since the person I’m making the scarf for reads this, but doesn’t know this gift is coming, I’ll just give a teeny hint – it’s sky blue, and she once said that was her favorite color)

lola the model

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

My dog is quite the multi-tasker. She can take a snooze in her favorite spot on the couch, AND model a scarf all at the same time! This is the scarf I knit for Sindy for her birthday present. The colors in the yarn look a little bright in this picture, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s prettier in person. I absolutely love the yarn I used for this project. I have more of it in purple that I intend to use to make myself something. My scarf will be skinnier and more of an accessory, but I figured with Sindy living in Michigan, she would actually use the scarf in the winter, and not just for looks!

The yarn is Sensations Spirits in Berry from Joann. It’s a straight knit scarf, I cast on 10 and just ran with it. I used size 10 bamboo needles. This took 2 skeins of yarn.

online shopping selection

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

I really hate it when online stores don’t have the same thing that the brick and mortar version has to offer. Take my latest yarn purchase from Jo-Ann for instance. I absolutely love the yarn I bought, but they only had 3 colors to choose from in the store. I noticed on the packaging that the yarn is a Jo-Ann exclusive, so I figured it would be on their website. It SHOULD be seeing as how they don’t carry it anywhere else. So I go to the website, and they do carry that brand, but not the style I’m looking for. How can the yarn be a story exclusive if you don’t even put it on your darn website? They’ve got a much bigger selection online, so why they don’t have what I want – I don’t know!

one knitting project

Monday, November 6th, 2006

I just finished up a knitting project in record time. I started it last week and literally just finished my last stitches. I think that’s a new record for me. It’s a gift for someone, so no pictures til she receives it. I’m pretty happy with how it came out – the yarn is soooo soft and pretty.

yarn overload

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Somehow, my simple trip to Target for a return turned into a sidetrip into Joann’s (located in the same plaza!) where I spent $50 on yarn and a new pair of knitting needles. Project? Oh, I have absolutely not a project in mind, so I guess I’d better figure out what to do with all of this yarn. It’s very soft, and very pretty, so maybe I’ll just sit here and stare at it for a while, in the hope that something will pop into my head.

snuggle up with captain jack

Friday, October 20th, 2006

This is way beyond my knitting and crafting ability – someone made a Captain Jack doll, a foot high, out of yarn -absolutely amazing.  I found it at Craftster.org which bills itself as a place for rebel DIY’ers, against geese in clothing and ducks painted on home decor.  I found lots of cool stuff made by people way more talented than I am, like this scarf made from scrap fabric and a purse made out of a vintage Scrabble box.

unmotivated crafter

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

I started a new knitting project well over a month ago. And haven’t touched it since. I have been so unmotivated to work on it, it ain’t even funny!

It’s a simple little project, and I could whip it out in a few evenings if I put my mind to it. But right now, my heart is just not in it…

blah.

scarves

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

I just finished the scarves I made for my sisters girls for Christmas. (Don’t worry – they’re getting REAL presents in addition to these!). The green/black one is for a 14 yr old girl who is a huge Green Day fan – I hope it’s cool enough for her. The purple one is for her older sister, and I like it so much, I’m tempted to keep it!
