postie carnival – love story

Monday, April 16th, 2007

The newest edition of the Postie Carnival is up at Lisa’s blog. The theme this time is love (awww!) and I submitted this post about how Jim and I met, back in the fall of 1994. (A long, LONG time ago it seems!) There are a lot of great contributions to the carnival, so wander over to Lisa’s blog and check things out!

boring day carnival is coming!

Monday, April 9th, 2007

A few years ago, some friends and I took pictures of our day and shared them. We called it “Boring Day Pictures” – original, ain’t it? I’ve decided that it would be fun to start that up again, and do it carnival style so that anyone with a blog can participate. You’re all invited to join the Boring Day Blog Carnival!

First, you’re probably wondering what kind of pictures you need to join in. I’ve put pictures of my boring day 2 years ago in the extended entry below, so click to see those. (They’re reversed because of how Photobucket gave them to me)

You can see that I started taking pictures when I woke up, and documented my entire day in photos. You can take whatever number of pictures you like, but you probably want to use at least 20 to show us your day. Blog them in one entry, with captions letting us know what you’re doing in each. I took pictures of getting the kids up, going to work, my day on the job, driving home, watching TV, eating dinner, etc. It’s a neat way to connect with the people you read daily, and get a peek into their lives, towns, families, and jobs.

To participate, blog your boring day, and then submit your post to the boring day blog carnival. You can use Flickr, Photobucket, or any hosting service you wish. Embed your pictures into your blog entry, or host them offsite at a service like Flickr. It’s up to you. Use captions to give readers an insight into who and what they’re seeing!

The deadline for submission for this edition is 4/19, and I’ll post all of the entries here on 4/20. If you are interested in hosting a future edition, please let me know! And click below to see my example pictures – I don’t have captions for them, but you should in your entry.

postie carnival – food theme

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Retta did a fabulous job of putting together the Postie Carnival – the theme is food, and I’m off to read all of the posts. (Hmm…I should probably eat first. Reading blogs about food when you’re hungry is probably a bit like going to the grocery store when you’re hungry, eh?)

postie carnival – television!

Monday, March 19th, 2007

I love television, so it was only natural for me to make it the theme of this week’s Postie Carnival! If you’re not a postie, it’s easy to become one – just follow the instructions at the bottom of this post. For now – let’s get on with the show!

General TV talk:

Denise of Extra, Extra! is so worn out from blogging that she enjoys mindless TV on the weekends…and I definitely know the feeling.

Suni talks about the TV that rox her sox – you might be surprised to find out what it is, but head on over to You Think You Know Me if you can handle the truth.

Deb over at Surviving NJ shares how TV can bring sadness into our homes, and make us cry over people we didn’t even know.

In that same vein, Pelf shares commercials that make her cry. See the clip posted at Pelf-ism Is Contagious.

Kilroy_60 at Fear and Loathing ponders what would have happened if the Seinfeld cast had been bloggers. Would they have turned a show about nothing into blogs about nothing?

Stephanie shares her thoughts on her kids NOT watching TV at Adventures In The 100 Acre Wood.

Karen of The Pond shares her secret obsession about watching true crime documentaries. Reminds me of when my parents had to stop letting me watch America’s Most Wanted because it gave me nightmares!

Lisa at My Thoughts, Ideas, and Ramblings points out that not all television is bad, and shares what her daughter is learning from children’s programming.

akashic blogs about a show I’ve never heard of – apparently the Daybreak season finale was only available online? I’m sorry I missed it, because the plot sounds like something I’d enjoy! Read more about it over at Wicked Babylon.

Ami-Chan says that her lack of cable doesn’t stop her from being a telly addict. Isn’t she so cute with her Brit slang? According to the list of shows she’s posted at Ami-Chan.net we like a lot of the same shows!

Life without TV? Say it ain’t so! How does Martin of Total Dismay cope?

Blog posts about reality TV:

Julie is a big American Idol fan – so much show that she’s blogging about it weekly. She’s shared a post about the American Idol audition episode she watched and her hopes for the season over at Julie’s Journal.

Lisa the Hippie Spelunker is another American Idol viewer, but she wonders if some people who end up on the auditions are only doing it for 15 minutes of fame

Jennifer is a reality TV junkie, just like me! She dishes her favorite shows up at Footprints On The Moon.

Blog posts about current programming:

Cecile shares her thoughts on Heroes – she likes Hiro and Ando as much as I do! Check out the clip she’s posted on Work At Home Musings.

J.E. is already mourning the end of the television season, and summer reruns. She’s looking for recommendations on shows to watch at Reviews And More. (I hate summer reruns as well!)

Marisa is enjoying her vacation in Hawaii, but she’s missing her Fox News fix! Head on over to My Dandelion Patch and give her an update if you’re a news junkie.

Retta also writes about being emotionally affected by those on TV, but not just real people – the actors in the shows! As someone who has cried during Pampers commercials, I can sympathize with her. Read more at Thoughts Out Of My Head.

Marcus is into a hot show I’ve never watched – 24. His recap of the season premiere of 24 is enough to make me want to get the DVD and get hooked! Read it for yourself at My Thoughts.

TV Memories:

Richard grew up with TV – I’m sure his version of Romper Room was a bit different than mine! He’s got TV he loved for each decade in his post at ShadowScope.

Cecile also updated us as to what happened to that Hanker For a Hunka Cheese guy on Whatever Happened To…. If you watched Saturday Morning cartoons in the 80’s, you know who I’m talking about!

Taking a trip down memory lane with me is Karen – she loves the Andy Griffith show. I miss shows like that, full of happy endings and smiling people.

Kat shares a television meme that includes the first shows she ever watched…or rather, the ones she remembers…and they’re the same as mine. Lots of TV goodness to be found at My Single Mom Life.

DonnaLeigh of Quiet Whisperings grew up with TV like I did, and from the soaps to British sitcoms, her interests are all over the place.

Another person who watched a lot of the same shows I did when growing up is Amy over at Whatever I Feel Like. Game shows, sitcoms, family programming – she talks about how it’s all affected her life in her entry entitled TV N’ Me.

Last, but not least…me! I blogged about my television debut on Romper Room, and even posted a few pictures for your amusement.

Phew! That’s a wrap!

If you’d like to join in the next carnival, it’s easy. Sign up here to be a postie:

destined to be a star

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

My fascination with TV, or more accurately, being a TV star, began when I was 3. There was a local version of Romper Room filmed by Channel 8 (WFLA) in Tampa, and my parents thought that I should be on it. Romper Room was a show for preschoolers that almost every local market in the US filmed a version of. Some cities showed a syndicated version, others had a local host. The host for Tampa was a lovely woman named Miss June, who last time I checked, was still alive and living in the area.

My mother had submitted my name to be on the show, and I was called over to be on the show. I wasn’t 4 yet, so they asked me to only appear for a day, but once the producers met me, they were taken with me – who wouldn’t be? Despite being only 3 1/2, I was asked to come back the next week – they thought I was mature enough to handle it! My mother wants me to make sure my readers know that she was the one responsible for schlepping me to and from Tampa each day – after working til midnight at the hospital each night.

We have an old super 8mm film reel showing me on Romper Room. In one scene, I’m following the other kids around the stage skipping (here we go Looby Loo!) and slipped, falling right on my rear. I got right up and kept on skipping, proving that even then, I knew that the show must go on!

Miss June, the host, was also writing a book at the same time I appeared on the show. At the close of each segment, the cameras would pause on a child and freeze frame. Miss June was apparently taken with me when it was my turn, because she drew a copy of that freeze frame and featured it in a book that was later published. My mother still has a copy of the book, somewhere, and Miss June autographed it for us.

Here’s a picture taken during my week on Romper Room – can you guess which one I am? (Click to embiggen)

(Duh, I’m the star – right in the middle of all the action!)

And here I am with Miss June:

So you see, my obsession started early. First Romper Room, then RockStartUp – tomorrow…who knows? (I’m fine with anything but cable access television!)

You can submit your entries by clicking here – it can be a new blog entry, or something you wrote in the past.

To be included, you have to be a blogger for PayPerPost – if you’re not yet, click here and sign up:
