I called my dermatologist’s office and rescheduled my appointment this week, again. I’m sure they’re just snickering at me by now, because I’ve rescheduled the same darn appointment 4 or 5 times! Things just keep coming up that are preventing me from getting there. I’m wondering if I should even keep it at this point, because my skin has been better, and I don’t want to go back on Accutane if I don’t NEED to go back on it. It’s not a regime to be taken lightly.
In the meantime, I’ve been seeking out information online about alternatives, and one site I like is SkinRevision. It’s a blog about skin care written by a cosmetic physician (Dr. Joanne Turner) in Brisbane, Australia. (I’m curious as to what the American equivalent would be - dermatologist? Plastic surgeon? Interesting…) This blog is right up my alley, as I’ve been a little self obsessed lately with my skin, and aging. The blog isn’t all business. It’s not all “clinical” talk, and it’s actually a bit refreshing to see a professional let down her hair and share some tips and tricks with the world at large. We women hear a lot of things regarding skincare - from our mothers (don’t eat greasy foods and chocolate or you’ll break out) to our friends, we even get advice from ads on TV or the lady at the cosmetics counter. Dr. Turner cuts through the nonsense we’re told and tells us the truth about skincare. For instance, this post about facial cleanser gives you the low down on why that high priced brand may not be the best thing for your skin. (I use a reasonably priced bar cleanser made for the face that I love, so I think Dr. Turner is onto something!)
And did you ever wonder why your friends swear by a certain brand, but it doesn’t do a thing for you? Dr. Turner fills us in on why all brands are not made for all people. Hint: it’s a little thing called body chemistry. The blog is just filled with advice like this, and I especially loved all of the money saving tips - who doesn’t want to save money and still look good? This blog is a must read for women who want to hear the truth about skincare!

I’m slighty scatter brained and disorganized, and one of the areas I’m trying to change my bad habits in is the home. I really WANT to be organized, and have things neat and tidy at all times, because living in a pig sty makes me feel anxious and stressed. Because of that, I was thrilled to find Keeping The Castle - it’s a blog that focuses on housekeeping and homemaking, but Maricar isn’t trying to turn me into the next Martha Stewart. Instead of pushing you to have a PERFECT home, she shares tips that will make your life more relaxed, things that will make keeping house easier, and perhaps even more fun.
From neat product reviews like the ove glove to great cookbooks she’s found for kids, this site is a great resource for those of us wishing to turn our houses into homes.

I just found a neat contest online at Recipe Connection. You get an entry by submitting a recipe, and you can earn extra entries by adding a picture of your finished dish. The winner of the recipe contest wins scrapbooking supplies, and your recipe will be featured on the site too. And since Christmas is coming, here’s the perfect recipe for sugar cookies!

I just downloaded and installed a new plugin called Photopress, so bear with me while I figure it out. If this works, you should see a picture of my green eyed middle child and a friend at her Halloween parade. She was Wednesday, from The Addams Family.
Looks like it worked! That was nice and easy, just the way I like it. Photopress gets 2 snaps up!

Last week, I wrote about a new website called Cash Columns. I ended up purchasing some advertising there to see how it went, and I’m happy to report that it went very well. I was refunded 200% of what I paid out when someone bumped me down the column, and I’ve reinvested my money back into the system two times now, trying out different columns, and different images. When I started, I paid $8 for each column space. Those same spots are going for $128+ now, so people are seeing a nice return on what they bought, and others who are buying in now are still getting in at a great price.
I’ve received 150+ unique visitors from Cash Columns since I started my advertising campaign with them - well worth the small amount of money I paid into it.

Amy mentioned Pandora as a way to find new music you’d like. I wondered how someone could tell me what kind of music I’d like, so I had to find out. It asked me to put in a song title or artist I liked, so I put in John Mayer. It played “Room For Squares” and then asked me to rate it on this scale:
- I love it, play more like this
- I don’t really like this song
- I’m tired of this song
- Why is this song playing?
- I want to add more music like this to my station
So after I rated “Room For Squares” (tired of it, for the record) it played Toad The Wet Sprocket, then Matt Pond PA (didn’t Laura just post a song of his for Music Monday?) and now it’s playing Travis. I’ve listened to Toad The Wet Sprocket before, but not in YEARS, and it was nice to hear something of theirs that I hadn’t before. I’ve never heard Matt Pond or Travis, but I liked them both. Oh, now it’s playing “Covered In Rain” - that’s a new John Mayer I haven’t heard yet. If you’re looking for new music, but don’t know what you want - Pandora gets 2 snaps up.

I am so freaking impressed with Cingular. Compared to our old cell phone carrier, T-Mobile, they rock my socks off. Not only have we had way fewer dropped calls, we have better connectivity everywhere. Tonight my phone rang inside the hockey arena where the boy takes his lessons - I NEVER got a signal there with T-Mobile. Tonight I was able to carry on a conversation with 2 seperate people…yay! I know part of the problem with T-Mobile was that we moved to the boonies north of Tampa, but the hockey arena is IN the city, so obviously T-Mobile has issues regardless. The new Razr phones are pretty sweet too. I was able to use it tonight to get on Yahoo IM - I felt so superior…LOL! And we got such a deal on them - free. You should always search around for the cell phones offering the best deal before you buy, and shopping around paid off for us.

I just finished reading Secret Daughter by June Cross. June was born to a white mother, and a black father. Her mother raised her until it became obvious that June couldn’t “pass” as white, and they handed her off to a black family to raise. Later in life, when around friends of her mothers, June would have to call her mother “Norma” or “Aunt Norma” in order to keep the facade up, and that was as late as the 70’s. June Cross went on to work in television news, and it was during her time at Frontline that she invited her viewers to learn her story. The story was amazing, alebit a little shocking that a mother would give up her child to protect her own career, or her husbands career (that was one of the excuses used in the book, as June’s stepfather was an actor).
