I had to drive the dog to the vet this afternoon, and so I took Jim’s car instead of my SUV. His car gets 30 miles to the gallon, while my SUV only gets 17 miles per gallon. (Not too shabby for an SUV, but still.) As for Jim, he’s been driving his motorcycle back and forth to work at lot, getting 50 miles per gallon. Not only have we adjusted our driving habits with gas prices going up so much, we’re actually thinking about getting a credit card specifically for gas.

I know, I know…I haven’t had one of those since I was 18 and my mom gave me a Mobil card off her account. Gas cards back then were mostly useless, since they could only be used at the gas station. Unless you wanted to load up on gas, a 40 ounce, and Slim Jims…they were mostly useless cards, right? Gas cards today are different. In fact, I picked up a flyer at one of the local gas stations, and this particular station has a great deal, offering 5% rebates on all of the gas you buy from them with the card. PLUS 1% rebates on any other store you use the card at, since it’s a regular credit card.

I’m not ready to apply just yet - I’m actually going to scope out the different cards at CreditCardsClub.com and see which gas card option is the best for us. They’ve got info on regular and bad credit credit cards too, so it’s a cheap and easy way to find out how to save some moolah each month on your credit card bills.

Credit cards are generally a bad idea. At lest for most people. However, the idea of saving money on gas is good and if most people would pay their bill in full each month, then there would be no problems. Most won’t though and this includes me!!! WAY TOO TEMPTING and not enough discipline.lol

I have a gas card and it can only be used for gas. But…I also get free gas every time I use it. I pay it off every month so I don’t have to pay interest charges and so far so good.

If only I could charge that much for my gas.

I can’t believe what we’re paying for gas. I also can’t believe if you close any of your exisitng credit cars your credit rating can go down. What in the heck is going on. It is so confusing and there is no help on the horzon..I wonder how the media will view these times in a few years. First thing that comes to my mind is tough times…especially for young famiilies.
