I moved to a country where God is very much in public schools and I am comfortable with it even though I am not practicing a religion personally. There was a billboard promoting religious tolerance outside the school until it was replaced with one proclaiming the arrival of Coke Zero on the island.

Hi,
What happens when someone sneezes at your school.........Bless you? Strange world we live in when you have to leave God outside the classroom.

God Bless (sorry) All the best

Go for it! It is a difficult situation, because the sentiment is the right one, you know? But that's when it's most important to speak up, when the situation actually constitutes slipping something in sort of through the back door. Nobody wants to denigrate the troops, of course, but that doesn't excuse the erosion of the separation of church and state... Isn't that the sort of thing that they are supposedly fighting for? Freedom of religious expression? Which equates, in part, to freedom FROM any particular type of religion being imposed on people?

And people can opt out of the Pledge of Allegiance. :) (A child in my grade school did, he was a Jehovah's witness and it was against his religion to say it...) Hard to opt out of a big honking sign out front - or the type of implied support/exclusion that such a sign creates...

You know, when I first saw the marquee, I thought "Is that allowed?" But, then again, The Pledge of Allegiance states "One Nation Under God", and that is still said in our schools.

All the christians bellyache when we kindly point out that using any 'god' in school is a big big no-no.

Yet, what if they put outside their school 'Allah praise the troops'? How many people would get in an outrage because they didn't use THEIR god.

Think about it. No gods. In School. It's really not difficult.

Go for it, woman! If you feel that you have half a leg to stand on - GO FOR IT! I'd completely drown out here...Jesus is EVERYWHERE. I really just don't think it's even worth taking up the fight. I just shake my head and ignore them. Back in Texas, I might have taken them up on it. Maybe.

Definitely not here, though - I'd almost have to devote all my time to it, to even make an itty bitty splash, you know?

Ugh.
