There was a billboard promoting religious tolerance outside the school until it was replaced with one proclaiming the arrival of Coke Zero on the island. It is a difficult situation, because the sentiment is the right one, you know? But that's when it's most important to speak up, when the situation actually constitutes slipping something in sort of through the back door. Nobody wants to denigrate the troops, of course, but that doesn't excuse the erosion of the separation of church and state... Isn't that the sort of thing that they are supposedly fighting for? Freedom of religious expression? Which equates, in part, to freedom FROM any particular type of religion being imposed on people? And people can opt out of the Pledge of Allegiance. :) (A child in my grade school did, he was a Jehovah's witness and it was against his religion to say it...) Hard to opt out of a big honking sign out front - or the type of implied support/exclusion that such a sign creates... Go for it! But, then again, The Pledge of Allegiance states "One Nation Under God", and that is still said in our schools. If you feel that you have half a leg to stand on - GO FOR IT! I'd completely drown out here...Jesus is EVERYWHERE. I really just don't think it's even worth taking up the fight. I just shake my head and ignore them. Back in Texas, I might have taken them up on it. Maybe.
