Every Sunday, or almost every Sunday, my sister does a feature called “Cereal Sunday” on her blog. Since my son spent the night at her house this weekend, she interviewed him for Cereal Sunday this week.
In the interview, Cheryl mentions my aversion to sugary cereals. My mother didn’t let me have them growing up, and I remember being horrified at a friend’s house one morning as she poured sugar on her Cheerios. Cheerios! They’re so good on their own, and my friend had to put sugar on them to get them down? Blasphemy!
Matthew’s favorite cereal, which he mentions in the interview as an afterthought, is Life. It’s mine too. You can’t go wrong with regular Life topped with fresh blueberries. It’s one of the best meals ever!
Like my sister, I love cereal and have been known to eat it for lunch, dinner, or a snack before bed. Like my sister, I’m frugal…as far as cereal is concerned. It’s ridiculous to spend $5 on a box of cereal that will be gone in days (especially with three hungry kids!) so I buy it on sale. We frequently stock up on cereal when it’s buy one get one free at Publix, which would explain why I have 14 or so extra boxes in my pantry right now!

I think regular cheerios are a bit bland plain, but with some blueberries, or other fruit put on top, they’re pretty good! I’ve been more “into” cereal lately… I eat it for breakfast in the morning before work because I just can’t eat anything more than that that early in the morning! I usually get Cheerios, Life, or sometimes Frosted Mini Wheats.
The taste of frosted flakes takes me back to visiting my Nana, who put sugar on her corn flakes. I never understood putting sugar on your cereal.
My mom would mix the honeynut cheerios and plain cheerios (probably both generic brands) so we would have a little bit of sweetness. But I am fine with regular cherrios too.
I loved grapenuts ho when I was a kid. Or grapenuts mixed with yogurt.
Sugar-free cereal is the real blasphemy! I pour scoops of the stuff on my frosted flakes!
And with the spiraling cost of food, gas and whatever else…you are a wise woman to shop for the bargains. It’s the only way a family today can survive. I am so disappointed in our countries economics. I continue to wonder just where its going. I don’t know how young families can do it today.
