I’m seething on the behalf of my friend. She’s been renting the home she’s lived in for the past year, and by all accounts, both parties were happy. They liked the house and were happy with the rent, and the landlord had great tenants. You can imagine her shock and surprise when she found a for sale sign in her front yard this weekend – done without a word from her landlord. Can you imagine? Apparently the landlord is having a few debt management issues of his own, and is two steps away from bankruptcy. He’s selling the house, I guess to try to save his own skin. Understandable, but to do that with nary a word to your great tenants? That’s just shady!
Unfortunately, my friend’s experience is becoming all too common in these parts. So many people have debt issues and don’t see a way out, and they turn to bankruptcy for a quick fix. Yes, in some situations it’s the only option, but too many people abuse bankruptcy, and they walk away from their debts, while other people toil for years to pay their own bills.
It makes me mad.

This must be going around, or something. My landlord dropped the same bomb on me this week.
