Floridians like me know we’re supposed to wear sunscreen anytime we’re outside - be it sunny, cold, cloudy! Those sneaky UV rays come through the clouds and cold and skin cancer will permanently mess up whatever kind of perfect tan you had going on!
My foundation has an SPF in it, but that’s not enough - I should technically be putting sunscreen on my skin anytime I spend any length of time outside. I just heard about UV Natural SPF 30+ Sunscreen, which as the name implies, uses only all natural ingredients. Considering that we’re to use sunscreen ALL THE TIME, it’s important to make sure you’re not slathering your skin up with something that’s going to cause breakouts, rashes, or has nasty chemicals in it. There are even formulations for babies and people who need anti-sweat sunscreen, and all of the formulas not only protect your skin, but they moisturize it as well.
I wonder what’s in the sunscreen I’ve been using up to this point?

While we were in Amsterdam last month, I got sucked into watching 10 or so episodes of That 70’s Show, all in a row. I got sick one night with congestion and a cough, so I stayed in over tromping about in the rain through the red light district. The only thing on TV in English was the Dutch version of Comedy Central, which featured That 70’s Show and South Park. I’ve seen episodes of That 70’s Show before, but I didn’t watch them regularly, and after watching all of those episodes in a row, I was hooked. I’m DVR’ing episodes now and watching them, but it’s driving me nuts since they’re out of order. The episodes at 11pm each night are in order, but the episodes at 11:30 are from a later season - drives me crazy!
Anyway, the whole point of this entry is that I was looking up the guest starts of a particular episode online and came across some interesting trivia. The site said that Kurtwood Smith, who played the dad, Red Foreman, won the role only after Chuck Norris declined it. Yes, you read that right - Chuck Norris was up for the role of the dad on That 70’s Show. He declined due to his filming commitment with “Walker, Texas Ranger”. I just can’t picture Chuck Norris as Red Foreman, can you? Kurtwood Smith is the perfect guy for the role!

Ack! My hair guy just called and canceled my appointment for tonight. My gray roots will be put off for another week until I can reschedule with him. It’s not his fault, he’s got a family member in the hospital, but that doesn’t help my hair. Must hold off on attempting to trim bangs myself. It always SOUNDS like a good idea, but the end result always proves that only a trained professional should be cutting hair.
It’s times like this that also make me want to go back to coloring my own hair, but again, I’ve discovered that job is best left to the professionals.
It’s going to be a long week of wearing a hat as much as possible.

I’m the guru as far as our software at work is concerned. I know how to run all of the reports, troubleshoot, and fix all kinds of dumb problems. It’s probably why I run the help desk, no? Anyway, this Christmas all of our staff wanted to send holiday cards to their business contacts that existed in our software. Pulling them out one by one would have been super tedious, so I used SQL to create lists for each person of their own contacts. Pretty neat, eh? After that little project, I noticed there’s a birthday field on the contact records, so presumably, I could pull a similar list that indicated when the date of birth for each was, allowing our staff to send birthday cards to their contacts!
This one from CardsDirect.com caught my eye immediately - we’d order from a company like this because they allow you to personalize the inside of the card and add all sorts of custom touches, for free! That way, our staff could add a standard verbiage with the company details, and then sign their own names to personalize things. They’re able to print return address on the envelopes, or your business logo. Right now, CardsDirect.com is offering free ground shipping on all birthday card orders as well!

This online statistics class isn’t shaping up to be so awful after all! I completed 2 chapters of work last night, and turned them in - this morning, they were graded, and I got an A on each! I’ve only got another 3 chapters to turn in, plus the final exam, and I’m feeling pretty confident about getting an A in the class. Me, with an A in math - who would have guessed it?
I’m actually ahead of the class right now, having turned in this week’s assignments last night, so I’ve got a whole week off from statistics. Good thing - I haven’t started my research paper on The Miracle at Fatima yet. To my credit, I did read two books about Fatima, which count as “research” for the research paper.

My son recently watched all of the Lord of the Ring movies, and after I told him the movie was filmed in New Zealand, he’s been hot to travel there. That combined with his love of the Crocodile Hunter (may he rest in peace!) means that the boy would be quite happy with a vacation down under. I won’t be booking the family on a flight to Australia anytime soon though - that’s a major undertaking! We’d need passports for the kids, for starters, and Australia is a big place. It’s definitely the kind of place you’d need at least two full weeks to really enjoy all that the country has to offer. Visiting Australia and just seeing two of it’s major cities would be like visiting the U.S.A and only seeing New York and Washington, D.C. - you’d miss out on everything else the place has to offer!
I’d love to spend a few days in Sydney, and then go into the outback to see kangaroos and koalas in person. Snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef would be a must do - just keep me away from the dangerous sea creatures! Speaking of sea creatures, another must see would be the whales migration along the Sapphire Coast. The whales can be seen in September, October, and November as they migrate to Antarctica.
Last but not least, we’d need to visit the Australia Zoo in Beerwah, Queensland, made famous by Steve Irwin. My kids were (and are) huge fans of his programs. I think it would be neat to visit in person and see the animals and people we’ve only seen on TV up till now!

We had a horrible experience last year with Matthew’s 2nd grade teacher, that resulted in several meetings between us and the principal. I’m thanking my lucky stars that while Matthew’s teacher didn’t seem to like him, and was a negative, unhappy person, she didn’t subject the kids to verbal abuse like the teacher in this video from Houston, Texas. Kudos to Megan’s parents, Diana and Oscar Mijares, for knowing something wasn’t right in their daughter’s classroom, and getting it caught on tape! I was absolutely floored to hear a teacher telling four and five year olds they they’re mean and stupid.
The teacher, who is a 30 year veteran, apologized and blamed her actions on medication. What an excuse! I’d like to know what kind of medication has a side affect of being verbally abusive to small children, especially when parents have placed their trust in YOU. The teacher has been reassigned, and while she’s still at the school as an employee, she’s not teaching. The school board should have NO tolerance for this, and the teacher shouldn’t have kept her job. There’s no excuse for talking like this to 4 and 5 year old children:
“Nobody are you good for. You’re just a bad kid. When are you going to be a good kid? Do you think any other class acts like this? No. You’re just mean to your teacher and I’m going to be mean to you, too. Everybody understand that? You’re mean to me so I get to be mean to you.”
“Ya’ll are just stupid kids. I swear to God”
“You don’t hang out in the hall, Camille, and you don’t act stupid”
Watch the video - the little girl looks like a real hell raiser, doesn’t she? This teacher had her suspended FOUR times for behavior issues. With a teacher like that, I’d act out too! The shame of this story is that had it not been for the tape, this woman would have never been caught.

My dear blogging friend, Mr. Fab, has been slacking lately.
He’s actually taking TIME off from blogging for writing - get this - a novel. Hmph! Do you believe the nerve of that guy, disappearing to a little dive on the beach to write his manuscript? He probably won’t even name a character in the book after me, despite all I’ve done for him!
I’m not sure what his genre is, but he makes a lot of Sculpey posts that involve Jesus, so maybe this self publishing process that helps Christian publishers is something that would help him out? They’ve got mentors to guide you through the process, from writing to publishing, and they can even help you market your masterpiece.
