If you know anything about me, you know that each year I partake in a big breast cancer walk which requires me to raise approximately $2000. I’m also a mother of three children who bring home (what seems like) a new fundraiser each week! From wrapping paper to candles, frozen food to walk-a-thons, the schools are always asking parents, relatives, and friends to chip in for something. I feel bad asking my friends and family to contribute to that type of thing after they give to my breast cancer walks, so my kids are the ones who return to school with a total of 2 orders. In fact, my oldest was just selling candles for a school trip, and a friend just gave her a $20 check and said he didn’t want any candles in return - he’d rather that all of his money went to her, instead of to the candle people! (He’s got a point, too!)
When I heard about Shoutback.com today, I gave the site a look. There’s not much information to be found there without registering (which I guess is the point!) but after a little sleuthing on Wikipedia, I found out what I needed to know. Shoutback is a new site that allows groups, organizations, and people like me to raise funds through an auction system and regular purchases from stores online. It’s sort of social networking meets fundraising + shopping and deals. And believe me, I’d much rather shop online and know that a percentage of that purchase is going to a cause I selected, than be guilted into buying more overpriced wrapping paper from the school!
While the site has potential, I’m a little bummed that I couldn’t discover more about it without registering. I browsed for groups and searched cities and zip codes and couldn’t find a single group. I’d love to see an about me page with screen shots explaining exactly how things work, before signing up.

Hello! I was just reading your blog, and I wanted to let you know Shoutback does have a Take-A-Tour feature, About Us, and How it Works section now. It can be accessed from the front page near the bottom, and you don’t have to sign in. Take-a-Tour has the screen shots your mentioned above. Have a great day!
