Yesterday, I had the opportunity to partake in a unique dining experience. I was awakened at 9am by my 8 year old son, who was wearing his church clothes and my Winnie The Pooh apron. He said I needed to get up, because he and his sister had a special surprise planned. I got up, brushed my teeth, and stumbled downstairs, where I was met by my 10 year old, who was wearing her church dress. She directed me to a seat at our dining room table, and handed me a menu for the MG Inn. (Matthew + Grace = MG)
Apparently, these two had gotten up at the crack of dawn and come up with this breakfast plan. They sent my husband off to the store with a shopping list, and set him to work in the kitchen upon his return. Matthew and Grace wrote out menus with breakfast AND lunch items, and you can get just about anything at the MG Inn, from “scarbled eggs” to “ceral”. Waffles are 50 cents each, but you can get as many pancakes as you can eat for $2. Under drinks on the menu, they wrote down milk, orange juice, coffee, and Coke, for Mommy! The menu even featured lunch items, like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and pizza rolls.
Now, I’m not a huge breakfast person. I normally skip it. There’s just something about a huge meal right after waking up that doesn’t appeal to me. But who can resist cute kids and hand made menus? I ordered 2 fried eggs and toast, and Gracie and Matthew took turns writing down the orders on their notepads, and then delivered them to my husband, who was waiting in the kitchen. I did pay for my breakfast, but at only $2.25 for 2 eggs, milk, and toast, it was a bargain. I left a $1 tip for my waitress (Grace) and $1 for the restaurant manager (Matthew).
If you’re ever around my house on a weekend, maybe we’ll invite you to dine with us at the MG Inn!
