Gracie has another orthodontist appointment soon, which got me to thinking about the upcoming dental appointments…one for each kid. There isn’t a dental appointment for me, because I am a huge dental wuss. Those signs at the dentist’s office that say “We cater to cowards”? They’re talking about ME. I know I should see the dentist twice a year, but I just can’t bring myself to sit in that chair and open myself up to someone with sharp tools. The last dentist I saw was a horrible quack, and he’s scarred me for life. There’s a sedation dentist in the next county who has billboards all OVER the place advertising their services, but they don’t take my insurance! I’ve actually searched for a sedation dentist in my area and I can’t find a single one who accepts our dental plan. I’m at the point where I’m ready to start using Google for sedation dentists in random cities in Florida…sedation dentistry Ft. Lauderdale, or sedation dentist in Tampa. If I could find one, I would be more than willing to drive a few hours for an appointment, knowing that I’d be sleeping like a baby while all my teeth are cleaned and fixed.

Just writing this makes me want to look up the information and get a few numbers to call on Monday.

And here I thought I was the only one that existed.

I’m a dental phobic… but I don’t really know how it happened. I used to be fine with going. Then one day I just stopped going until I had no choice. I have a wonderful sedation dentist. I had to have a couple of root canals (different appointments), but each root canal was done in its entirety in one (sleeping) appointment. No side effects afterwards. I hope you can find someone. I can relate 100 percent to your fears. It’s very crippling for me.

By “don’t take your insurance,” do you mean they won’t accept/file it? Or they’re just not participating providers? I work for a dentist who offers sedation dentistry and he’s not a participating provider with ANY isurance company, but we still file all the insurance. It just means that the patient could be responsible for a little more money out of pocket. Most preventive services are covered at 100% of an insurance company’s “allowable fee”- and most of our patients end up paying $5-10 because Dr. W’s fee is that much more than their allowable fee- even though is fee is not any more than any other dentist in the area. I haven’t come across an insurance company yet who covers the sedation fee (no matter what dentist the patient chooses), so it wouldn’t make a difference in that part of it anyway.

I’ve also not heard of an insurance company who wouldn’t reimburse the patient if they paid up front and then filed their insurance themselves, which is very easy to do.

It is SO important to get to the dentist regularly. You know “they” have now linked heart disease with periodontal disease and tooth decay, right? Get thee to the dentist, Colleen! You could always come visit and I’ll hook you up at my office. :o) And I won’t even post pictures or videos of you all drunk/sedated unless you want me to. LOL!

Have you tried Dr. John Cherry in Brandon? He’s on Bloomingdale just West of Bryan.
He takes quite a few insurance plans and practices sedation / pain free. My whole family goes there and he is wonderful.
