One of my goals in life is to travel to all 50 states. I’ve currently hit 31 of our 50 states, and I’ll add 2 more this year when I visit Boston, Massachusetts (in 2 weeks) and Las Vegas, Nevada (November). For obvious reasons, Hawaii and Alaska will probably be the last 2 states I visit. I’m trying desperately to change that though. You see, I never really had much interest in going to Hawaii before, despite watching Magnum P.I. and those episodes of the Brady Bunch with the tiki idol. We’ve got enough beaches & palm trees in Florida to keep me busy for a long time, and I don’t like coconuts. LOL! kauaiAfter reading a book called Molokai, which tells a fictional account of a girl who grows up in Hawaiian leper colony, I was hooked. I decided right then and there that I’d get to Hawaii sooner, rather than later. History like that really interests me, and I think it would be fascinating to see the place where Father Damian worked and cared for the people no one else wanted to care for.

Of course, there are a lot of places I’d like to visit other than Molokai. I’d want to spend as much time in Hawaii as possible, and visit as many islands as possible. Second on my list of things to see would be Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona National Memorial. Again, if you’ve got history, you’ve got me hook, line, and sinker. I’d much rather learn about the history and culture of places and the people who live there than anything else!

Another hot spot is Kauai, located about 20 minutes (by air) from Honolulu, so it’s relatively easily accessible. Why Kauai? Again – the history. This is the where Captain James Cook first landed in Hawaii in 1778, and there’s a monument located in the town of Waimea. Kauai is also home to many caves and grottos, which I’d love to spend a day exploring. There’s so much to see that getting one of these Kauai vacation rentals is a must – this isn’t a day trip! You can get your own Waipouli beach resort rental, should you want all of the convenience that a condo can offer. Another option would be Poipu vacation rentals. Poipu is on the south shore of Kauai and it’s the place to visit if you want to see the Spouting Horn. That’s Hawaii’s version of Old Faithful. Each wave of water at this spot comes through a small opening in the lava shelf, and shoots up as high as 50 feet in the air!

Phew. I think I need at least a month to see everything I want to see! Remember, if you’re looking for vacation rentals in Kauai, Remax in Kauai doesn’t just sell homes, they can hook you up with rental homes and condos too! Why rent a hotel room when you can enjoy your very own beach house?

Kauai is a beautiful place. My dad was in the Air Force, so I lived on Oahu for 5 years while we were stationed out there. We visited the Big Island, Maui and Kauai. Kauai was by far my favorite – it is the greenest (hence its name The Garden Isle) and Waiamea Canyon is awesome.

I’ve been to Kauai – It’s absolutely beautiful. I hope you make it over there one day (you the hubs alone would be a great trip)!

I am saving this for the end too! While I have travelled through much of the US, I hope to do this a little later when my daughter is grown up as little more.
