I heard Merv Griffin passed away yesterday. He’s one of my earliest TV memories – I recall my parents watching The Merv Griffin Show in the early 80’s. I can still picture the ugly set from the show, with it’s rust carpet and those horribly uncomfortable chairs. merv griffin show And, being a fan of Jeopardy, I know that the show was produced by Merv Griffin Enterprises. In fact, Merv came up with the Jeopardy concept, back in the early 60’s, and he also produced Jeopardy’s redneck cousin, Wheel of Fortune. Merv also produced Rock & Roll Jeopardy, which some of you may recognize as the show that brought Jeff Probst into our lives. (Unless of course, you caught Probst on FX – and who watched FX? Not me.)

Merv did a lot for TV, especially the television of my youth, and for that, I salute him. Rest in peace, Mr. Griffin.

How sad, I hadn’t heard that. He was one of my mother’s favorites.
