Now HERE is a movie I can sink my girlie teeth into! Have you seen the Eye of the Dolphin movie trailer online yet? I’ve always liked movies and TV shows about dolphins and other sea creatures. It all started when I watched Flipper as a little girl…and it continued with movies like Free Willy and Andre. And Eye of the Dolphin looks like something that the kids and I will both enjoy, without being too juvenile, or having too many adult themes. (Don’t you hate it when you’re watching a so-called family friendly movie only to be blindsided with some kind of adult situation? I do. It happened in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants with one of the friends losing her virginity. Argh!)
In the movie, a 15 year old girl named Alyssa is expelled from her school in L.A., and must move to the Bahamas to live with her father. They don’t have a relationship at all, and he’s too involved with his dolphin research to bother with her. Alyssa ends up doing a bit of her own dolphin research by bonding with a wild dolphin. The whole thing was filmed in the Bahamas, and having been there numerous times, you’re in for a visual treat. Crystal clear water, white sand, and blue skies as far as the eye can see…
The movie features a great cast of big names and rising stars, like Carly Schroeder, Adrian Dunar, George Harris, Katharine Ross, Jane Lynch, and Christine Adams. The film was directed by Michael Sellers, and written by Wendell Morris. It looks like a movie that will have me secretly crying, hoping my kids won’t see me! Conflict between a father and a daughter, a daughter who misses her mom, and the bond between a girl and a dolphin…gosh, I might shed a tear right here! Lest you think it’s too sad and sappy, it has funny bits too – like in the preview where Alyssa’s friend says, “You came to the Bahamas and you didn’t pack a bathing suit?” Ha!
The movie comes out on August 24th. That’s right before Gracie’s party, so we may end up taking her slumber party guests to see this one!

it has been a long time since I’ve seen a movie with some beautiful sea creatures in it. Sure there were those animated features, but the animals in this movie are real! Haha. I love dolphins and I really want to see this movie. The dolphins are a plus, but the thing that really gets me is that it is a family movie that I can watch with my parents and my brothers. We have so few family outings and gatherings that this movie seems like the perfect thing to get us together. My brothers will no doubt love the actress, because she looks real cute and my parents will surely love the adventure set in the Bahamas. I can’t wait to see it when it comes out on August 24 ( I got it marked on my calendar!) So yes, let’s all go see it together and then write about it! it will be fun for all I think.
