A few months back, I had some of the diamonds in my wedding band replaced. Two had fallen out of the loose setting, and it looked like the most white trash wedding band you’ve ever seen! We took it to a local chain jeweler, and while the service was excellent, I’m not too thrilled with the diamonds they used to fill in the blanks. I can tell just by looking at the 2 stones that they are sub-standard diamonds. They don’t have the same color that my other diamonds have. Shame on me for blindly trusting in a chain and not being very explicit in what I expected! While some big jewelry stores have great salespeople who really bend over backwards to do the right thing (and I know, because I have a good friend who IS that type of jewelry salesperson), others do not. That’s why I prefer going to a privately owned store. Palas Jewelers, is one of those private stores that is doing a lot to stand out from the national brands. They have a GIA certified gemologist on site, they offer custom design, and can perform appraisals of your jewelry for insurance or resale purposes. I’ve definitely learned my lesson. I’m going to be more informed the next time I buy jewelry and investigate the work of the company I select to get my diamonds from.
