I’ve tried different forms of advertising and social networking (on a limited budget) and have been (mostly) dissatisfied with the results. Something that I think is pure gold gets submitted to Digg and receives minimal traffic, while things I consider to be pure doody are sending sites so much traffic that web servers croak and die.

I’m also not impressed with the heavy hands that the Digg admins have, shutting down user accounts and such. Why not let the users of a site like that decide what the best stories are, and keep the admins out of it?

Enter Thoof and their version of the news. Like Digg, users can submit content. Unlike Digg, Thoof is smart – intuitive, almost. It personalizes the content you see based on other things you enjoyed. And while Digg is shutting down user accounts and removing content right and left, Thoof remains completely user generated, and thereby, user managed. You don’t rate stories you liked, you simply read them. Didn’t like what you read? Click not interesting. You can even IMPROVE on the current content by suggesting changes. If other readers agree with you, the story changes. The ThoofRank Badge allows you to display the popularity of a story you’ve submitted on your own site.

So what did I like at Thoof?

  • What WalMart doesn’t want you to know about their water
  • Britney Spears Hits Parked Car, flashes Paparazzi and Leaves
  • Paris Hilton in Lingerie at Playboy Party
  • See What Kind of Income the Big Blogs Make

Visit Thoof for your OWN personalized news, and tell me what you like!
