A few years ago, my niece went off to Europe with a group of students from the US to spend a few weeks soaking it all in. To say I was a teeny bit jealous was an understatement - I would have love to have done something like that when I was a teenager! We had an exchange student when I was growing up (from Norway) and it seemed like such a fun concept - going to a foreign country, living with another family as if you were part OF the family, and seeing the sights of your adopted country.
Obviously, I didn’t get my chance to study abroad while I was a student, but I never realized that adults could do the same thing. The NRCSA Study Abroad Programs not only give high school students the chance to see the world, but also university students, teachers, the clergy, law enforcement, and other business professionals. Even families can participate in one of the programs offered by NRCSA. If you’re a nurse, did you know you can go overseas and work in a foreign hospital? What an unbelievable learning experience!
The site allows you to search by program type, country, or language. You may think that your options are somewhat limited if you speak only one language, but for example, I could travel to either France, Monaco, Switzerland, or Quebec to take a program in that particular language, and the site outlines everything available to me for each option. I’m only got 2 years of high school French under my belt, but I’m sure after a few weeks with a family in Paris I’d be parlez vous-ing with the best of ‘em.
