During my birthday dinner this weekend, the topic turned to a cruise that my little family went on in 2005. We spent a week on the seas, aboard the Carnival Victory, and visited Mexico, Grand Cayman (my son LOVES to tell people that he’s been to Hell!) and Jamaica. Of the 3 ports of call we visited, Jamaica is the one I’d like to go back and explore the most. We spent the day in Ocho Rios and toured a garden, did a quick look around the city, and then spent most of our day at Dunn’s River Falls. No one told us that it was something you get IN the water to enjoy, and we weren’t dressed for climbing up the falls, so we enjoyed them from the scenic overlooks. I did get in at one shallow part, abut halfway up, and led the kids out to enjoy the VERY cold water. There are plenty of other attractions in Jamaica that I would have loved to have visited, like the sugar plantations, but there simply wasn’t enough time.

Jamaica is a lot like Florida as far as the weather is concerned - it was extremely hot and humid, and we were there in November. It’s not anything like Florida as far as the landscape and beaches. It’s amazing to see mountains rising out of this little spit of land in a sea of clear aqua water. The beaches we saw were pristine looking. When we returned home, I immediately began scoping out all inclusive resorts in Jamaica in hopes of returning for our 10th anniversary. (Sadly, with buying a new house and moving, it wasn’t to be!)

Our company had a big shin-dig in Jamaica last year at the Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort and my boss was one of the lucky people who got to go. The reports I heard back from the attendees is that the service and resort were fabulous - 5 stars all the way. Maybe work is my ticket to getting back to Jamaica!

Here are the kids at the botanical garden we toured in Ocho Rios:

Here they are on the beach in front of Dunn’s River Falls - love that water!

And here we are in the COLD water of the falls at Dunn’s River Falls:

My kids look so LITTLE! It seems like we just did that cruise a few months ago, in fact, I had myself convinced it was 2006. But it was a whole two years ago and they look so little in these pictures. Where does the time go?

I’m happy to hear someone else say the same thing. Where does the time go. I just turned 61 and am now enjoying my grandchildren and one great grandchild. I am discouraged as to how quickly times are over and gone. Enjoy life while you can. It literally flies by…
