tammy fayeI just saw on Yahoo that Tammy Faye Messner passed away today. If you’re not sure who that is, you probably know her by her former married name of Tammy Faye Bakker - all this time, I thought it was Tammy Faye Baker. Go figure.

Tammie Faye was only 65, but she had colon cancer and it had spread to her lungs. I still remember the day I saw Tammie Faye and Jim Bakker on TV after their big PTL scandal, tears running down her face, her eyes looking as if she’d used an entire tube of mascara on them that morning. I also remember seeing Tammie Faye on TV a few years ago during a TV show she did, and she seemed like a much happier person, and like she had come to terms with all that had happened with Jim Bakker, PTL, and Jessica Hahn. (Gosh, doesn’t that seem like it was ages ago?)

The saddest thing about Tammie Faye’s death is that it may have been prevented. She was in poor health for over a year and didn’t go to the doctor out of fear. I hate hearing things like that, and wondering if she had gone when she started bleeding, if her cancer could have been caught in time for treatment to work.

I, too, was very saddened to hear of Tammie’s passing. She was definitely not a typical person, and I’m sure she will be greatly missed.

It was so sad to see Tammy so ill, and to find out that she had died was even sadier. I watched her on tv when she was coming on with her husband then Jim. I will prayer for her when she said she was not afraid to died that’s when you know she was truly God child.

My mother is currently dying of lung cancer. I never felt anything for Tammy F. before. Now, I feel crushing sadness due to her death. Never thought there would be anything “connecting” me emotionally with her - I’m an athiest and for years despized televised organized religion, but her death and her faith inspires me in my life and I will not be so judgmental in the future. We are all human and the world should be kinder to each one of us. May she rest in peace.

I, too, am sorry to hear of Tammie’s death. Saw it on the front page of a tabloid months ago and forgot to check it out till now. When she was on PTL with Jim, I often wondered just how genuine she was … especially when that scandal took place. It was only after seeing her on surreal life that I realized she was definitely the person that she professed to be. That she really did love the Lord and was faithful to him. I’m thankful to surreal life for having her and erasing every doubt that I had about her.
