sock monkeyI’ve got a few baby showers coming up soon that I plan to attend. I always LOVE shopping for babies – who wouldn’t? Stuff has changed so much since I bought things for my kids, in fact, it’s gotten a lot nicer. I love taking my time to pick out a fantastic gift – something really special that will wow the mom-to be. I for one, am sick of baby stuff in light pink, light blue, yellow, or green. Boring! I saw enough diaper bags with Disney characters on them during my pregnancies to last me a lifetime. I’m bored with cutesy outfits and nursery decor in black and white or primary colors. If you want a different gift that will wow your friends, you’ll find it at Hazel and Melvin’s Room. The site logo featuring clip art that you might find in a Dick and Jane reader from the 1950’s gives you the idea right away that this isn’t your traditional baby store. Inside you’ll find handmade diaper bags, nursing pillows, crib bedding sets, and baby quilts in retro styles. The diaper bags are a messenger style, and are roomy inside, but could pass as a regular purse or book bag. I loved the retro prints on the crib bedding, and the mix and match options. (The monkey print is darling! It reminds me of the book Ellen Tebbits by Beverly Cleary where Ellen and her friend have matching monkey print dresses.)

The nursing pillow covers are cute enough that you could tuck the pillow into your couch after feeding time, and your visitors wouldn’t even realize that it was a nursing pillow. The pillow covers fit most standard sized nursing pillows, and come with a Velcro closure to make it a snap to remove and clean.

And let’s not forget the sock monkeys! You don’t need to wait for a baby shower to buy one of these. They’ve got sock monkey t-shirts and purses, and sock monkeys in all sorts of patterns. Every kid needs a sock monkey to snuggle with!

Heh. I live where sock monkeys were created and I’ve never owned one. I didn’t even know about them until I read a story (more like a picture story) about sock monkeys with a life. It was funny. During an anniversay there were sock monkey statues downtown. I didn’t know what they were until I found out online. My kids had other stuffed animals to snuggle up with and did just fine. They’re kind of cute, but I don’t think every kid needs a sock monkey.
