Kat posted on her blog earlier today about the passing of Don Herbert, aka Mr. Wizard. I was a huge fan of the show, called Mr. Wizard’s World, when it was on Nickelodeon. I watched it from about 1983 til the late 80’s, but the show actually ran until 1991. (I was 15 then, and had moved on.)

What I liked about the show was that is explained the how and why behind the science. It answered all of those simple questions my parents couldn’t answer, like why is the sky blue, why is the grass green, and how can I use a potato to make a clock? The show didn’t talk down to kids or make me feel like I was learning something (the kiss of death for many so called educational shows).

Mr. Wizard, you will be missed.

I really wish they had a current show like his, it taught us kids so much.

I was sad when I heard about this…I used to love Mr. Wizard’s world when I was a kid.
