We’ve been at MGM Studios all day for Star Wars Weekend. Yes, not only am I a computer geek, but I’m a Star Wars geek too! We’ve got that tropical storm to the west of us, so it’s been overcast and humid all day. Weather like this makes me think about moving away from Florida…I get like this every summer, LOL!
One thing Jim and I have talked seriously about is building a retirement / vacation home. We don’t talk about building near the beach, or far from home…we seem to be stuck on a little mountain cabin in North Carolina. For me, it’s because it’s only a day away from Florida, the weather is milder than here, and there’s lots to do outside, all year round. There’s snow, but not too much, there’s skiing, there’s hiking, and we like the people we’ve encountered on our vacations there. In fact, there are a lot of Floridians in Asheville - they all migrated there after a few bad hurricane seasons, one right after the other. We’ve always vacationed close to Boone, NC, but I’d love to go to Asheville the next time we head north - my sister has vacationed there several times and raves about it. And, I’d like to go in the summer or fall, since all our vacations to NC in recent years have been during the month of January.
This site featuring Asheville homes has a really cool map feature. If you don’t know your way around an area, that’s a neat tool to have at your fingertips. Apparently we’re not the only ones thinking about retiring to North Carolina, because there’s a lot of info on the site about the active retirement community in Asheville. The site also has info on the arts and entertainment available to visitors and residents alike, the festivals, outdoor activities, and the culture of Asheville.
And it’s not humid. Two thumbs up for Asheville!
