I’m not sure who is looking forward to the end of the school year more – my son, or me.
He came home today telling me that he didn’t get recess. He’s been in testing for the past two days and they didn’t do recess because it would be too “noisy and disruptive” to have kids on the playground while testing is going on. Me, personally, I think after a morning of testing, kids should be rewarded with a little playtime.
Anyway, today he gets in the car after school and tells me that he didn’t get recess today because he didn’t follow directions. I’m thinking, ok, you were clowning around or talking, and that’s why, right? Nope. He tells me he was supposed to do a worksheet with completed sentences, and he didn’t. So no recess. But get this – the teacher gave him time to fix it BEFORE recess, and he did. Did he get recess? Nope.
How does it make sense to punish a kid for not doing a worksheet correctly by taking away recess? And you don’t sit inside during recess while everyone is playing. Oh no – you sit on a bench outside for the recess period (15 minutes) watching everyone play.
WTH is wrong with this school? And this teacher? I called the school once we got home but the office is closed for the day. Lucky for them, because I am steaming. Perhaps I’ll be more calm tomorrow, and I won’t feel the urge to beat the teacher upside her fat head. I’m so worked up now, it’s like I’m hopped up on nodoze with an energy drink chaser. Grrrr!
That kind of crap just pissed me off! And OF COURSE he has to sit on the bench outside. He couldn’t sit inside with a teacher because that would interfere with HER break time!
I’d be really angry about that too. It’s so unfair what they did, he completed his work.
That is my absolute worst pet peeve. At least as far as kids’ school is concerned. I would defintely call the school tomorrow. There must be a more appropriate consequence than missing recess.
For both your sakes, I hope the school year comes to end soon. I hate teachers like his.
