When I was a little girl (because folks, as freaky as I am, I was NEVER a little boy), I remember being forced to take naps. Naptime at school consisted of an hour of fidgeting around on my little mat, and whispering to friends, and being shushed by my teacher. Naptime at home was an hour or so of me not sleeping, and begging my mother to let me get up.

As an adult, I’ve come to embrace the nap. I love naps, and I wish I could take one every day. Sadly, with having a job that requires me to go into the office from time to time, that’s not really a viable option. If only the USA took to the idea of a siesta, used in so many Spanish speaking countries! A lot of people don’t get enough sleep every night (my husband included) and many have jobs that require long hours of staring at a computer, with little physical activity. The solution? Power napping. A power nap in the afternoon at work can give you the burst of energy you need to make it through the rest of the day. As little as 20 minutes of sleep can recharge you. If you’re at work, use half of your lunch break to eat, and sneak out to your car – set the alarm on your cell phone, turn on the a/c, and shut out the outside world…and your eyes!
