When we moved to our new house last year, I didn’t know what the heck I was going to do about daycare for my kids. In our old neighborhood, we had a neighbor who was also a mom watch the kids before and after school as needed. I only go into my office about once a week, and I work from home the rest of the time, so it’s pointless for me to pay for a full week of daycare when I only need a day here and there. We really lucked out when our neighbor offered to help us out. When we moved…well, our neighbor didn’t move with us, so we were stuck once again! Luckily, I made a friend in town right away, and she has been able to help us out with picking up the kids on the days I go into work.
We’ve completely lucked out in our childcare situation, but I realize lots of parents aren’t so lucky, and finding daycare openings is a tough thing. You’ve got to get on waiting lists and research daycares in advance. A new service called Daycare Bear was launched in 2005, and it can help you find nearby daycares with openings. You can search by zip code, rates, the ages of children accepted, and lots of other options. A site like this can be a real lifesaver for working parents.

We got word from the IRS our taxes were accepted today. Umm…yay? I’m not thrilled about paying.
Medium is on tonight. Yay! No clue if it’s new or not, so maybe I shouldn’t rejoice just yet.
A new episode of Tori and Dean Inn Love was on last night – so cute! Tori Spelling is a complete goofball and she’s totally won me over.
We’re going out for wings tonight. No cooking for me!

My sister has a pond in her backyard that her husband built. It makes a really neat focal point for the backyard, and turns it into a little oasis of sorts. I’d love to do something similar in our backyard, but I’m not really sure where to start. This website on water gardens seems like a good place to get some general information on what’s required to start your own water garden, and where to find and buy pond supplies. I think our climate would really lend itself to having a tropical pond with lilies and maybe even a few koi swimming around. As long as I can train the dogs not to drink out of the pond, we’d be good.
Have you ever thought about doing something like this? Or have you already done it? Was it hard to create a pond, and did you bite off more than you could chew?

I started watching “The Class” on CBS a few months ago, and I was instantly hooked. I can SO relate to the theme of still hanging out with people you’ve known since high school, since I do it! I am still in touch with a friend I’ve known since middle school, and we’re walking the 3-Day together this year.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the show, and I have my DVR set to record all the episodes of it, since I did miss a few. But it hasn’t been on in weeks, and I’m worried. Did it get canceled? I need to see what happens with Duncan and Nicole!

We’re back! We waited for longer than the procedure actually took. First she had her cleaning and sealants done, and then the laser. They numbed her up and she was very brave. She didn’t even flinch when the needle hit her, and they had to stick her twice. They did the laser and the whole thing took less than 10 minutes. I got to watch, and it was SO neat. It was like a long stick with a little red light at the tip, and he just touched the area and the tissue sort of melted away. Really neat!
He put in one stitch to discourage the tissue from healing back together and she has to do some tongue exercises to keep it moving also. She can move her tongue a lot more now. She freaked out more about the stitch than anything else, but I’m sure the Slurpee we got on the way home will make things all better.

Ever since I posted about Music.com the other day (man, what a domain name they snagged there!) I’ve been listening to new artists there. It’s pretty easy to log on once I start working and browse artists and songs and enjoy it while I work. I’ve found a pretty few good artists that I would actually like to hear more from, and I’ve found a few that should be on the next American Idol…so we can laugh at their audition. It’s amazing how much serious talent is out there just waiting to be discovered.
I really love the event calendar, because it allows you to see what the bands and artists you like will be up to next. I used to go to a lot of clubs when I was single to see local music, and I really miss that. There’s nothing better than a small club, a few beers, and a great live act. If you’re a band or artist waiting for your big break, don’t wait for it to come to you. Just visit Music.com:

For laser surgery. Yay!
Gracie is tongue tied – she has a tight frenulum. Feel under your tongue. That little piece of tissue that connects it to the bottom of your mouth? Yours is probably long enough to allow you to tough your tongue to the roof of your mouth. She can’t. So she’s getting surgery to snip it. And because this runs in families, my son will be having the same surgery on another day. Fun!
The surgery is called a frenelectomy and will be done under a local anesthetic. She’s nervous, and actually, so am I. My stomach has been churning this morning worrying about her. I know she’ll be fine but the hardest part is going to be getting her under the local anesthetic with the shots. She doesn’t like shots, and I don’t like watching my kids get shots.
I took a before picture, and I plan on taking after pictures so she can see the difference.
