I called my dermatologist’s office and rescheduled my appointment this week, again. I’m sure they’re just snickering at me by now, because I’ve rescheduled the same darn appointment 4 or 5 times! Things just keep coming up that are preventing me from getting there. I’m wondering if I should even keep it at this point, because my skin has been better, and I don’t want to go back on Accutane if I don’t NEED to go back on it. It’s not a regime to be taken lightly.

In the meantime, I’ve been seeking out information online about alternatives, and one site I like is SkinRevision. It’s a blog about skin care written by a cosmetic physician (Dr. Joanne Turner) in Brisbane, Australia. (I’m curious as to what the American equivalent would be - dermatologist? Plastic surgeon? Interesting…) This blog is right up my alley, as I’ve been a little self obsessed lately with my skin, and aging. The blog isn’t all business. It’s not all “clinical” talk, and it’s actually a bit refreshing to see a professional let down her hair and share some tips and tricks with the world at large. We women hear a lot of things regarding skincare - from our mothers (don’t eat greasy foods and chocolate or you’ll break out) to our friends, we even get advice from ads on TV or the lady at the cosmetics counter. Dr. Turner cuts through the nonsense we’re told and tells us the truth about skincare. For instance, this post about facial cleanser gives you the low down on why that high priced brand may not be the best thing for your skin. (I use a reasonably priced bar cleanser made for the face that I love, so I think Dr. Turner is onto something!)

And did you ever wonder why your friends swear by a certain brand, but it doesn’t do a thing for you? Dr. Turner fills us in on why all brands are not made for all people. Hint: it’s a little thing called body chemistry. The blog is just filled with advice like this, and I especially loved all of the money saving tips - who doesn’t want to save money and still look good? This blog is a must read for women who want to hear the truth about skincare!

This is a sponsored review.

You know you’re old when you hear a great song from your youth being used in a commercial. The Violent Femmes song “Blister In The Sun” is being used in a new Wendy’s ad. I got onto the Femmes bandwagon a little late, around 1991 when I was 15 (moody teenagers like me just couldn’t resist “Add It Up”) but I’m still a little sad about such a cool little alternative rock diddy being used to sell sandwiches.

What’s the head of the British Army got against Prince Harry?

He really does believe in that “heir and a spare” thing I guess, because he personally decided to send Prince Harry to Iraq, despite the fact that Iraqi insurgents have been circulating Harry’s picture and making plans to kidnap and target him. On one hand, I admire Harry and the British army for refusing to treat him differently. That’s admirable. On the other hand - dude, you’re 3rd in line for the throne. And Diana’s son. If he dies in Iraq, how long before some fool is on the internet spouting a conspiracy theory about how it was all a plot?

(Harry is my favorite - can you tell? I’m a sucker for a redhead.)

Today didn’t work out the way I had planned. I had intended to go into the office today for some special meetings…and my girls both woke up sick. Over the weekend, they both started getting bug bites all over them - except that they hadn’t really been outside long enough to get bitten up. And new spots kept appearing! Catherine counted 65 on Saturday. I didn’t think it was chicken pox because they had the vaccine, and there weren’t any spots on their backs or stomachs.

Off to the doctor we went, once both girls started complaining of sore throats and sniffles and just feeling bad. The doctor was stumped until he did a strep test, and it turns out both girls have strep (the 2nd time in 5 months for Gracie) and he thinks that’s what is causing this weird rashy bug bite looking stuff. Hopefully the rest of the house doesn’t get it - I’m itchy just thinking about it!

I’m not the only Tori Amos fan out there - Nifty Nation has proclaimed this to be Tori Amos week. I’ve always had a thing for Tori. Besides being a total knockout, she can sing and play the piano, and can do both at once. I’m a sucker for a piano player. I had the chance to see her in concert in Tampa a long time ago…1998 perhaps? We went to the show early as my friends told me there would be a chance that Tori would do a meet n’ greet outside the Sun Dome before the show - and they were right! We were part of a smallish crowd who got to be up close and personal with Tori - she was extremely gracious and modest. It made the show that evening that much better.

Friday night went better than I expected. The first hour was a little boring - it was a mix and mingle cocktail hour. It reminded me of being on a cruiseship because you could get your picture taken with one of the company big wigs, just like when you pose for a photo with the ship’s captain on a cruise. After we did our photo, the rest of the hour was spent being introduced to people I won’t see until the next dinner in 5 years.

After that, it was time to sit and eat. It was like a big wedding reception - over 200 people there I think! Dinner was good, conversation was flowing, they did awards for people, the end. Time to go home!

Some of you may know I’m in a little friendly competition called The Blogger’s Choice Awards. I’ve got a few blogs that were nominated, but there’s one blog in particular that I’d like to see win, and that’s my charity blog, 3DayMom. I’m going to be at the awards show, and I sure would like to win one in person. And, I’d hope that by winning, I could get a little more attention for my cause, which is the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. I’m walking for the 2nd time this year, and I’ve raised $1600 so far. ($600 to go!)

Now, perhaps you are not sure how walking helps breast cancer. Well, the $2200 that I raise, along with all of the money from the other walkers goes to the Susan G. Komen foundation to fund research and outreach programs. It pays for mammograms for women who can’t afford the cost. It makes people aware of the risks, and makes sure that people know early detection is the key to being a survivor. I walk to raise awareness, and last year, the walkers in Philadelphia (where I participated) raised over $6 million dollars for the cause.

You do need to register to vote, but please consider doing so to help me out. If you can’t afford to donate, or simply don’t want to part with $20, this is the next best thing you can do to help me out. When you register, just return to the ‘best charity’ blog category and vote for 3DayMom here:

I have several blogs up there in different categories, but best charity is the one I REALLY want to win. However, if you’re so inclined to vote for more once you vote for 3 DayMom - here are the links for all of my blogs:

The episode last night was a bit…predictable, but I’m not complaining. I’m so happy to see the 4 Horseman getting picked off one by one. Mookie and Alex - shame on you for rummaging in Yau-Man’s bag! (Shame on Yau too for keeping the idol in his bag!) I was so happy to see Jeff call them out on that at tribal council. HA!

And speaking of Jeff…would it be too much to ask him to mix it up a bit? How many times are we going to hear the following phrases:

Wanna see what you’re playing for?
Head back to camp.
Immunity…back up for grabs.

The idea of having my own business has always intrigued me, and I’ve had several home businesses over the years, in some shape or form. A very LONG time ago, I got talked into doing one of those home party shows - I was actually somewhat successful and it, but I felt it was a lot of work for the amount of money I was making off each “party”. After that, I started a website for moms, which I ended up running for 4 years. Now that was something I could sink my teeth into - being in control, and selling advertising, and creating content…right up my alley! It was something I loved, but after 4 years, I got burned out and needed to move on, so I sold the site. I guess in a way, blogging is a home business. I’m doing it from home and making money, so that qualifies, right?

Have you ever thought about running your own business from home? I have friends who do home daycare, another who is thinking of opening a recording studio in her home, and yet another who sells jewelry. If you want to be your own boss, but you need a bit of inspiration, check out this site listing home based business opportunities. If you don’t like the 4 listed on that page, click to the main page of BusinessOpportunity.com and check out the big picture. You’ll find information on vending machine franchises to things you can do exclusively online, as well as 100’s of other ideas and opportunities. Already own your own home business, but want to let others know about it? You can buy a listing on the site and spread the world!

This week flew by. Tonight, Jim and I are going to an awards banquet. He’s getting an award from his employer for having over 20 years on the job. Kind of amazing when you stop to think about it - he’s only 37, and he’s been at the same place for 22 years, working his way up. That’s almost unheard of these days. I’m mixed on attending the event - I’m excited and happy for him of course, but it’s one of those things where I’m not going to know anyone, and there’s going to be a lot of talk about work…and I don’t work there!
