Even though we’re not going on our vacation to Canada til June, I’m still spending time now looking at hotels and things to do while we’re there. I am a compulsive travel planner, and I like to know where I’m staying and what I can see whenever I go somewhere. I’ve been researching lots of info and looking at lots of websites to learn as much as possible before we head north. It’s funny how Canada is so like us…and yet, completely different. I watch a few Canadian TV shows on HGTV and notice the little differences…there are different companies for buying flowers, or shopping for online gifts (the all important sites that end in .ca!) and they’ve got different loan structures and credit cards. (Uhh…that makes sense, since the money is different too. LOL!)
Ooh, speaking of money in Canada - my hairdresser told me that the reason Canadian people don’t tip, or don’t tip WELL is because the tip is always included in Canada. Is that true? I always hated waiting on Canadians when I worked at the bar because I could always count on a small tip. So someone fill me in - are y’all cheap, or just used to the gratuity being included? I don’t want to overtip in Canada if it’s already included! We’ll need to do a little currency exchange when we get there to exchange our dollars for loonies - I guess I could ask then, right?

I hope you speak Canadian. Repeat after me:
“How aboot that hockey game, eh? Here, have a Molson and admire my muklucks…
When I bartended…okay, it was EONS ago, but anyway…I had two friends from England who came in a lot, and after no tip a few times, I’m like…boys, boys..what’s the deal? They didn’t realize it was custom here…luckily i really loved teir company at the bar! After that I got great tips! LOL
I’m Canadian and I’ve never eaten anyplace where the tip is included. We tip all the time, if the service is good.
Verrryyyy funnnyyyyy!
No, the tip most often is NOT included in your dinner bill, bar bill, etc. That would be the provincial sales tax and the goods and services tax that are included in the final tab. And maybe they speak that way out east, but here on Vancouver Island, we are very civilized, complete with high tea :)))
