Today I was in my hometown for a few hours, walking around on my training walk. Wow, things have changed quite a bit since I was last there, last summer. A gas station torn down here, a new Subway restaurant over there, and new construction EVERYWHERE. Even in a real estate slump, things are being built. We passed a new home that had a price of it on $800K – you see why I don’t live there anymore?
One of the things that baffled me were the condos being built in a touristy part of town. Not a real attractive part of town either – bordered by the Sponge Docks (noise, traffic, etc) on one side, the river & a dive bar on another, and the projects and poor section of town on the other. Not exactly my first choice for a $500K condo, ya know? Luxury condos do well in certain markets – Las Vegas luxury condos come to mind as being on touristy area most people wouldn’t mind living in. Tarpon Springs though? Maybe out by the beaches, or in a nicer area of town, but you couldn’t pay me to live that close to the Sponge Docks.
