When you go out for the night, and leave your husband in charge, you may come home to find odd things. Subtle differences in the house, and the children. For example:
Wet sneakers laying in driveway
Bike in grass to side of driveway
2 scooters in driveway
Once I got done moving wet sneakers, the bike, and the scooters, I went inside to find:
9 year old on couch watching TV (10:30 at night)
Extra child in bottom bunk bed - not my offsping. Covered him up, and sent 9 year old to bed.
Oldest child missing from house, at sleepover. Figure as long as I still have 3 children in the house, it’s all good.
Last but not least, snoring husband in my own bed.
Eh, he’s cheaper than a babysitter.

I’m a big Jack Canfield fan, and have twelve of his Chicken Soup For The Soul books on the shelf next to me, and a copy of The Aladdin Factor. But what’s Jack been up to these days? He’s involved with a new seminar for “The Secret”. Let me back up first…
“The Secret” is a movie that has a lot of buzz on the internet. You can watch the movie online, or buy the book at Amazon. Larry King & Oprah have talked about it, and The Wall Street Journal, and NY Times have written about it. The movie has spawned a how-to program called “The Secret Science of Getting Rich” and it features the same big name teachers from the movie, like Jack Canfield. The basis of the seminar (and the movie) is that you can improve your life by focusing on the positive and attracting great things. (And let’s face it - nobody likes a Debbie Downer!)
In addition to Jack Canfield, The Secret seminar features success coach Bob Proctor and spiritual leader Michael Beckwith. The catch though, and there’s always a catch - the program costs $1,995 for you to participate. That’s a lot of money for most people I know, and I’d hate to see someone plunk down that much money and not get the results they hoped for. I’d be interested in going just to see what all the buzz is about in fact - I think of these seminars as a great church sermon, without the religion.
This is a sponsored review.

Tomorrow is the first beach outing of the summer…and I’m not going!
My girls are going to my sister’s house for a sleepover, and out to one of the local beaches on Saturday morning. I’ll be at home enjoying a day off with my husband - we’ve got no plans for the day other than cleaning house and doing a few other chores. Hopefully the girls will have a sunny day, without clouds, and without this wind that’s been kicking around for weeks. (I’m ready for you to go out like a lamb, March!)

When I was 9 months pregnant with my oldest child, I was going out of my mind. It was right before Christmas and I wasn’t in the mood to be out shopping and running around getting ready for the holiday. I was bored with TV. I was bored with reading. I needed something to take my mind off my impending labor and delivery - but what? Enter a card game called Skip-bo. My mother and I started planning at the dining room table every night, and it was a blast. It let me show my competitive side (yep, I’ve got one!) and it distracted me from the holidays and the fact that the baby wasn’t interested in making an appearance anytime soon.
And speaking of card games, my husband loves them too, but he prefers using a plain deck of cards and getting together with the guys for poker. Beer, cards, a few cigars, and hopefully coming out of the game with more money than you went in with. One of these home game packages would be a neat gift for him, because right now we don’t have any supplies for card games. We’re always trying to find a deck with all 52 cards, and the guys don’t use chips when they play poker, they just use change. There’s even a roulette package - that’s Jim’s game of choice. He’d be so stroked to play it at home!
Our kids are at the age now where I think they’d really be into a family game night - maybe we should break out the cards and teach them a few games that I learned as a kid, like Crazy 8’s or Hearts.

I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating:
I’m sick of reruns. And where did my regular shows run off to? I haven’t seen an episode of The Class in weeks. How I Met Your Mother - all reruns, and I haven’t seen them yet, so I’m extremely confused on the timeline of things. Rules of Engagement - eh. Not that impressed with the show. My Name Is Earl, and The Office, both reruns. Grey’s Anatomy? Rerun.
I need some new shows, and I need them now.

Even though we’re not going on our vacation to Canada til June, I’m still spending time now looking at hotels and things to do while we’re there. I am a compulsive travel planner, and I like to know where I’m staying and what I can see whenever I go somewhere. I’ve been researching lots of info and looking at lots of websites to learn as much as possible before we head north. It’s funny how Canada is so like us…and yet, completely different. I watch a few Canadian TV shows on HGTV and notice the little differences…there are different companies for buying flowers, or shopping for online gifts (the all important sites that end in .ca!) and they’ve got different loan structures and credit cards. (Uhh…that makes sense, since the money is different too. LOL!)
Ooh, speaking of money in Canada - my hairdresser told me that the reason Canadian people don’t tip, or don’t tip WELL is because the tip is always included in Canada. Is that true? I always hated waiting on Canadians when I worked at the bar because I could always count on a small tip. So someone fill me in - are y’all cheap, or just used to the gratuity being included? I don’t want to overtip in Canada if it’s already included! We’ll need to do a little currency exchange when we get there to exchange our dollars for loonies - I guess I could ask then, right?

Repeat after me (feel free to do the cha-cha as you chant):
Rocky is gone
Rocky is gone
Rocky is gone!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, people vote off someone I don’t like. This totally makes up for poor Anthony getting sent home last week. Rocky was a whack job and had a screw loose. I think we’ll see a tribe that gets along much better now that his attitude has left the building. Err…cave.
And how about my man Yao and his fake immunity idol? He’s so devious - I love it! And I loved that Mooki was making fun of him at the challenge, but Yao Man scored a direct hit with the flame thrower and showed him how it’s done. HA!

I saw an episode of House Hunters recently that had me drooling…the show focused on a small town in North Carolina or Tennessee - something with homes similar to this Beaufort NC real estate website. Once again, I am jealous of those of you who can get more bang for your buck - these homes cost less than ours and were another 1,000 feet bigger on acre lots, with fireplaces and all sorts of nifty upgrades. Oh, I know, the cost of living is less and the amount we’d make is probably less too, but it still makes me drool a little.

I was going through boxes in our closet last week, trying to add things to the yard sale pile. I found a box that we probably should have unpacked last May when we moved in…it contained the contents of what used to be in Jim’s nightstand at our old house. Papers, pictures, a few odds and ends, a bottle of that weight loss stuff made from Ephedra - just a weird box of things we should have probably junked in our last move. Funny how it got tucked away and forgotten all of these months…

When I had my yard sale last week, I put an ad in the classified section of the local paper. The paper has an online version of their print classifieds as well, but it’s basically a big listing of ads. I prefer this set up for classifieds a lot more! Instead of just giving you a list of items for sale, Itsmymarket.com strives to be a community resource for people. In addition to the classifieds, the site provides local news, weather, blogs, a dating site, and community websites. That’s a really neat idea - not only can you sell your old things and make some cash, but you can stay in touch with your community or make new friends. After all, chances are that if you’re selling Star Wars toys, the person buying them is probably a Star Wars fan too, right? After your transaction, you can blog about each other, or form a Star Wars club online, or whatever you want. When you add the community aspect, you give people connections like that!
