I’m particular about my plugins. I have 5 or 6 favorites and anytime I set up a new blog, regardless of whether its for my personal use or for a friend, I install my favorite plugins. Tonight, I downloaded and installed a Wordpress Glossary Plugin from Internet Marketing Monitor. Any Wordpress user can use this plugin to create and maintain their very own glossary of terms.

After installing and activating the plugin, I went to the manager page in my WP admin panel and clicked on the IMM-Glossary link. The plugin doesn’t come with it’s own terms, so I had to add my own. I decided to add the term Colleenie-Weenie to my dictionary. Assuming I did it correctly, you should see a small dictionary icon next to that phrase in this paragraph. Clicking on it will show you my definition for it. Additionally, from the page where I’m typing this post, I can tweak my glossary settings to apply it to ALL of the occurrences in this post, or just the first one.

This is a great little toy no matter what type of blogger you are. Rather than linking back to posts where you’ve explained things in the past, or writing a definition each time you talk about a term, you’re automatically linking to your own definitions. You don’t need to be a tech blogger to use this either - how about a mommy blogger who uses nicknames for her kids on her blog? Instead of explaining WHO MonkeyButt is each time she blogs, she can just add that term to the glossary. So now you know that MonkeyButt is my 9 year old daughter. Rather than spending time linking back and forth, you’re saving time and keeping your readers informed.
