I’m a native Floridian, born, raised, and currently living in the area that we call Tampa Bay. I’ve seen my fair share of the state in my 30 years here, from vacations at Disney World, to visiting my grandmother in Pensacola. There’s a lot to see and do here – Florida is VERY tourist friendly. One of my favorite local vacations was the time we met friends in Anna Maria Island, which is located on the south Gulf coast, south of Tampa, and west of Sarasota. Our friends have booked a beach cottage from a company specializing in florida vacation rentals, and it was wonderful. We could walk right off the porch and onto the beach, it was quiet, and peaceful – no big resort hotels looming over us. At night we walked down to a seafood restaurant to eat and drink. I love that type of lazy vacation – no plans, nothing to do…just relaxing in a hammock all day.
