Eleven years ago today, I gave birth for the first time. After exactly 40 weeks, I was induced on my due date, and became a mom. Catherine was born in the evening of December 27th, 1995. She was immediately nicknamed “The Beautiful Catherine” because she was so perfect looking. We took her home and she broke us in on diaper changing and sleepless nights. She was a difficult sleeper and preferred to be held. Her waking hours found her smiling and happy though, and everyone was immediately taken with her, from Aunt Cheryl, who brought her a teeny tiny University of Florida outfit on Catherine’s first day home, to her grandmothers, to her father and I. Catherine took her first plane ride when she was 2 weeks old, and was able to charm her great grandmother and distant cousins in New Jersey.
Today she’s off at her 2nd day of softball camp, and tonight, for the 11th consecutive year, we’ll host a family birthday party at our house for her. She is a typical over achieving first born child. She is a straight A student for the 2nd year in a row, and excels in everything she attempts. She is eager to please and unbelievably mature for her age. Her father and I are lucky we’ve had a kid like her to be the first born, blazing a path for her sister and brother to follow. In celebration of her 11th year on Earth today, I ask those of you reading this that know Catherine and our family to share your favorite memory of her. I’ll start by telling you about the time she learned how to say “Da-Da” - approximately 10 minutes after we dropped Da-Da off at the airport. He may have missed that moment, but she repeated “Da-Da” for me every few minutes until we saw him again. Thankfully, she caught on quickly and learned how to say Mama next.
Happy Birthday, Catherine!

Probably the BEST Christmas present you ever received. Even if it was a day or two late.
Happy Birthday Catherine.
“Caf-erine” is one of the few unselfish people I know. She has a servants heart. From her fundraising assistance at our 3 day walk (she was also our constant training partner and she would have walked the entire 60 miles with us ,without complaint had she been allowed!), to just this past Friday at Metropolitan Minsitries…I was so proud of her! She spent the entire 3 hours on her feet being a “personal shopper” to countless homeless Mom’s & Dad’s, without complaint…after showing her what to do only once, she insisted she could do it alone, and she did not let anyone down! She was pointing out toys, asking questions about the children so they’d know what to get….and had smiles and “Merry Christmas” as each one left with their bag of toys that she helped pick out. On the way home in the car, she was thinking of ways we could help them next year by stocking up on toys off the clearance rack to donate! She is a good girl, I am blessed to be her Aunt.
Happy Birthday Catherine -
I don’t know what would be my favorite memory of her, because she is so sweet and helpful EVERY time we see her. I think one of my favorite things is he quick response and bantor with Russ. They are so funny to watch together. I also love how patient she is with Brenden. She’s always there to back him up when the other kids are picking on him.
Happy Birthday Sweetie!
My favorite Catherine memory is of her visiting us in Colorado when the girls were still pretty small. It was pretty special being around those girls experiencing snow for the first time!
And I got to take a picture of Catherine’s first snow angel!
Happy Birthday, Catherine!!
