One thing you learn from living in Florida, through 30 hurricane seasons, is to be prepared. It’s better to have the things you need on hand at all times, rather than be caught in lines at the last minute. My husband works in a grocery store, and he can tell you first hand how nuts things get when a storm is coming. People snatch up milk and bread like it’s going out of style. Milk, which will spoil if your power goes out, and bread, which start to go moldy. Yeah, not exactly smart shoppers. I’m prepared even for normal storms…the power can, and does go out here quite often. We have a big maglite flashlight in the garage, and we each have one in our cars too. They look a bit like the lights that police use – and they can be a weapon in a pinch. They’re not as cool as these headlamps, as seen on The Amazing Race though! I think our best bet for the storm season would be those flashlights that doesn’t require batteries – have you seen those ones that you can just shake to get started?
