My grandpop was a big baseball fan. He spent many an evening in his office at home, watching the games on TV, but as far as I know, didn’t attend many games. He should have come to visit us in Florida more often – our pro team (the Devil Rays) may not be that great, but lots of spring training is done in Florida, and it’s a great chance to see the teams in action. For instance, the Boston Red Sox train in Fort Myers, which is just 2 hours or so south of Tampa, and you can get Boston Red Sox spring training tickets for much less than a trip to see them in Boston would cost. Seeing a spring training game is quite a bit different than the “real thing”, but just as fun. The stadium that the Red Sox use for spring training is very much done in a Florida style, with palm trees everywhere. You definitely won’t mistake it for Fenway Park! There are box seats and bleachers, and it’s an uncovered stadium, so you’ll get to enjoy the beautiful Florida weather while watching the great American pastime.
