So here’s what we found.  Remember – pedestal table, 8 chairs, not too formal or fancy, not too over the top, traditional, simple, not too expensive.  Easier said then done.

We really liked a set at the first store we went to, American Signature.  It had a pretty sideboard to go with it, the color was right, and so was the price.  But we didn’t want to buy the first thing we liked, so we kept looking.  There wasn’t anything for us at Rooms To Go – their pedestal tables were too formal, and fancy schmancy, with all of this carving and detail work.  Kane’s had a table Jim liked, but it was a bit too wide for our dining room, and I didn’t like the sideboard that went with it.  Ashley Furniture had a table we loved, but the fabric on the chairs was white.  Not a good choice for a family with 3 kids.  And then Thomasville…dear, dear Thomasville.  We absolutely fell in love with the Nocture dining room ensemble.  They even let you pick which fabric you want on their chairs, and we would have had our choice of 30 fabrics.  The only problem?  The entire set – table, 8 chairs, and then the sideboard, would have cost us over $4,000, and that was with their 20% off sale!  And don’t forget the table pad for another $300.  It was a beautiful set, but too “nice” for us.  Not that I don’t have nice things, but I would have been paranoid about letting my kids eat, or even breathe, near this furniture.

So back to American Signature we went, where the prices didn’t seem so expensive anymore.  We selected a new table and 8 chairs:

And a sideboard table:

And we also bought a curio cabinet for the room, in the same style, and may go back to add a wine cabinet once we measure the room.  It’s all being delivered in a week!

[...] Our new furniture arrived yesterday, and it looks great! There’s just one teensy problem. The chairs were covered with plastic when they arrived, and when we took it off last night, we found grey spots on the seat cushions of one of the chairs. I’ve already called the furniture company and they’re sending someone out on Friday. It’s annoying to get brand new furniture that isn’t in perfect condition, but since it’s just one chair, and we have another 7, it’s not that big of an issue. [...]
