Laura asked what books I read on my trip to Denver & back. In the Tampa airport, I bought a Harlen Coban paperback. I just started reading his books – I think Amy recommended him. I had checked out Promise Me from the library and enjoyed it, so I got Darkest Fear in the airport, because it had the same character as Promise Me. I liked the book…it wasn’t AS good as Promise Me, but the characters are great.
When I was leaving Denver I picked up The Pact: A Love Story by Jodi Picoult. I’ve read most of her books, and it wasn’t until I was halfway through The Pact that I realized it also had 2 characters from another of her books. The lawyers from My Sisters Keeper show up in this, and I think they were the best part of the book. The book – eh. The ending left you hanging, and we never got a feeling for Emily, who the book centers around. There was a hint of sexual abuse that was made into a key point in the story, but never fully explained, which made no sense. We know Emily is depressed, but other than a few vague reasons, we never hear WHY from her mouth. I kept reading the book waiting for it all to come together and click, but it didn’t.

I probably did recommend Harlan Coben – he is awesome! I’ve read all of his books to date; can’t wait for new ones to come out!
Jodi Picoult is too depressing…
