birthday countdown: 1 days

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

First, I’d like to point out that no one commented on yesterdays post, Birthday Countdown: 2 Days. Get over there and do it!

Now, on to todays pictures. I can’t even believe I’m posting this picture…ugh! This was my first boyfriend, Andy Espinosa. We went to Homecoming together in 1991. Like my perm (curly bangs in the front and the back is straight?) And braces? Sheesh. I think I wore glasses too, but I took them off for the picture. One of the awkward years for sure!

Christmas 1991 – so I’m 15 here. My sister and I are obviously too hot for you with our perms!

Sweet 16 and never been kissed. (Yeah, yeah, look, even my sister is laughing at that notion!)

My senior class photo:

May 1993 – prom with my boyfriend Brandon Loomer. Yep, he’s the same boy in the ice cream birthday party picture. I think I was telling him off here – I did that a lot. We got along like oil and water.

June 1993 – I graduated from high school!

rowr!

It’s not too soon to think about Halloween, right? I love dressing up – I’m just a big ole’ kid. These sexy costumes are so me! 2 years ago I was a french maid in a costume similar to this one. Nothing like slapping on some 4 inch heels, fishnets, and grabbing your feather duster before going out on Halloween! And just in time for the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, there’s a pirate outfit. Maybe Jim can play Captain Jack Sparrow and “shiver me timbers”…LOL!

hmm…

My husband won’t give me many details on the celebration he’s planning for my 30th birthday. But tonight, I did find out that we’re leaving at 3pm and I should pack an overnight bag.

The plot thickens!

food memories

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

This little trip down memory lane isn’t just about the good times – for me, food is closely associated with those memories. Carvel ice cream cakes on my birthday, drinking the foam head off my father’s Pabst Blue Ribbon…

Thinking about food reminded me of the first time I had a burger from White Castle – http://www.whitecastle.com. We don’t have them here in Florida, at least not in my area, so we bought a package of White Castle burgers from the local warehouse store. A boy at school was bringing them for his lunch, and since I had a little crush on him, I too wanted to eat White Castle burgers! I remember thinking the burgers were so SMALL. I had never seen anything like it. I didn’t like them at first because of all the onions, but I quickly discovered I could ditch the onions and cram 2 or 3 burgers into my mouth at once. This trick horrified, and amazed the 6th grade all at once. White Castle burgers made me the star of lunch time!

ironing

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Do you think it’s possible to iron curtains that are already hanging?

I put up my new drapes last week and they’ve got big ole creases on them from the packaging. I’m way too lazy to take them down and wrestle them onto the ironing board. Do you think I could leave them up there and iron them that way? Or is that just asking for trouble?

The OTHER place to gamble

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

I watch this show on Comedy Central called Reno 911 – and it got me thinking – why is it that when you say “gamble”, people think “Vegas”? Las Vegas is just a mirage in the desert – but Reno has Lake Tahoe, PGA golfing, skiing at world-class resorts, hiking, and more.

Reno Underground dishes the dirt on what’s a must-see, and what you can afford to miss out on. From hotels, to casinos, to where to eat, they offer brutally honest, independent reviews of all Reno, Nevada has to offer you. Did you know there is a place to eat in Reno called The Chocolate Bar? It offers sinful deserts…I’m so there!

Reno also has beautiful weather, allowing the city to plan for lots of outdoor festivals, including the Hot August Nights classic car festival, the Reno Rodeo, the Rib-Fest, The Chili Cook-Off, and Tahoe Snow Fest. Almost any time of year, there are great events going on in Reno, so don’t miss out! Be sure to check out Reno Underground for all your Reno low-down!

birthday countdown: 2 days

July 1985 – I was nine. Here I am with ‘Miss Piggy’, my pet guinea pig.

Ready for dance class – rocking the legwarmers and jelly shoes. I’m here with the family dog, Porky. He got out of the yard when was 12 and was hit by the garbage truck. He was the best dog ever. And take note of my Super Bowl 19 t-shirt!

I’m ten! Here am I dressed up for church, braiding my Cabbage Patch dolls hair.

July 1987 – in Pensacola. I’m 11 here. Starting to look more like the “me” I am today, don’t you think?

1988 – my 12th birthday. My cousin Craig at left, my next door neighbor and best friend Melissa, me, and my friend Chris.

I’m 13! And still wearing a one piece bathing suit with a ruffle and a sailboat on it. THANKS MOM for dressing me funny! Love that layered haircut too!

me & my mom

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Amy asked if the Romper Room picture in an entry below was of me & my mom. It’s not – that’s the Romper Room lady, Miss June.

Here is one of me & my mom though – from May 1978. I was 22 months and “Mom Mom”, as I called her back then, was almost 30, the same age I am right now. Do you think my mom at 29, looks anything like me at 29?

(Sorry it’s such a bad picture – out of the 2 albums I looked in, there was only one picture of my mom. I guess she was always behind the camera!)

reading material

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

In this house, we subscribe to three magazines – Reader’s Digest (oops, my seniority is showing), Maxim, and FHM. I never buy directly from the publisher because it seems like they have the worst prices. And my subscription is about up for Reader’s Digest, so it’s time to find a new deal. MagazinePriceSearch.com lets you compare prices for over 2500 magazines so that you can find the best deals. I love the shop by price feature.

They’ve got Reader’s Digest for $14 for 2 years – sheesh, I think I paid twice that last time I renewed. You have your pick of who to buy from – and they show you any discount codes you need to get the price advertised too, so there’s no bait and switch deals. Cool!

it’s the most wonderful time….of the year!

We did back to school shopping last night. The elementary schools in this county do uniforms, and I love it. I really missed the kids wearing them! And then we got their supplies…cheapest supplies ever. $30 total. I remember when we were in private school the list was literally $50 per kid. Yay, public school!
