Last night we drove to Brandon and went to Old Time Pottery. We were able to get some bedding for one of the kids rooms, and some new sheets for our sleeper sofa, and a rug for the den.
We had intended to go back home and eat dinner after that, but it was almost 8pm when we left the store, so we hit Roadhouse Grille.
Bleah.
The service was slow (I guess a few people called in sick?) and our waiter tried to hustle but he just had too many tables to take care of. It was one of those nights when it took 15 minutes to get your drink, and forget about getting a refill. And don’t even get me started on the $7 kids meals that didn’t INCLUDE a drink. Yes, we got charged $1 for each of the kids little itty bitty cups of sodas.
Jim ordered prime rib, and 20 minutes after we ordered it, the waiter came back and told him they were out of it. I got shrimp 3 ways - the fried shrimp was fried past the point of being recognizable, the bacon wrapped shrimp were edible, and the grilled shrimp were overcooked and rubbery. Needless to say, we complained and didn’t pay for that part of the meal.

I ordered photo cards from WalMart - real cute with our new address and phone number, and a picture of our new house. They even added a little “just moved” graphic for me.
I got them tonight and started addressing the envelopes to our family and such…and then realize… Read the rest of this entry »

We recently retired the boys first hockey stick and bought him a brand new one for his next session of hockey. The man had the idea to hang the old stick up in the boys bedroom for decoration, which I thought was a pretty cool idea…
the man took it one step further. Read the rest of this entry »

If you’re a regular reader of my 3 Day Mom blog (and if you’re not, you SHOULD be), you’ll see this story there too. It’s too good not to share.
My oldest is a sweet kid. Really, a lot of people say that about their kids, but she really is. When she was 5 or 6, she had a birthday party and decided she had enough “stuff” (her birthday is very close to Christmas) and asked all of her friends to bring a donation for the pregnancy center at our church.
She’s been training with me, and fundraising for me for my 3 day walk. I don’t think I’ve be where I am financially if it weren’t for her - people actually pass me by to put money in her bucket when we’re out fundraising. She’s stood for hours with me on a hot sidewalk in front of the grocery store asking for money, and never complained. She willingly wakes up at 7am on a weekend to go on training walks with me. She’s done as many as 10 miles with me, so that I could have company on a walk!
But this weekend she did something that really touched me. We were all talking at dinner about my next fundraiser, and how I’m only $500+ away from my $2200+ goal now. After dinner, she disappeared into her room and then came back holding $10 she had earned from babysitting. She handed it to me and said,
“This is a donation for you, Mommy!”
I smiled and told her that it was ok, she could keep her money for a new shirt or a movie she wanted, but thank you anyway!
She handed it back to me and said, “No, you need to make your goal - YOU take it!”
I almost cried. I led her to the computer so that she could make the donation online. In her entry on my 3 day donation website she wrote:
In support of my mom, good luck finding a cure.
And that is the best donation I’ve gotten so far. However, that’s not to say I won’t accept yours
Feel free to head over to my official 3 day website and throw some money into the pot - ever little bit helps!

Just noticed this search in my site stats:
(For the record, it wasn’t MY husband wearing my bra, and the husband in question was wearing it over his clothes. We’re not that freaky!)

So some of my favorite girls expressed their shock at my lack of a birthday present wish list. Y’all are just too, TOO funny. Seriously. (Bitches!)
I don’t have a wish list! Are you amazed? There will be no registering at Linens N’ Things, no online link to Amazon…nothing.
Those of you who know me best will know that there is NOTHING I like better than to be surprised. Let me clarify - a GOOD surprise, not a “Oops, I just stepped in dog shit” kind of surprise. My mom started surprising me when I was younger, and I still love to be surprised. (Coolest thing I can remember her doing - making me a Valentine with rhyming clues about a surprise trip to Busch Gardens)
I do the same thing we my kids - we surprised them with a trip to Disney once by driving all the way there and pretending to be lost. We planned a winter trip to North Carolina and left them clues (ski stuff, winter clothes) and hints hidden around the house on Christmas morning. I have my passport ready and waiting just in case my husband decides to surprise me with a trip! Anyway, I digress…
What I’m saying is - I like to be surprised. We just moved into a new house and haven’t done much in the way of decorating it, so that’s one route, or I’m sure you girls who know me well can figure out something else. So if anyone is going to buy me a gift, that’s my wish list. Surprise me. You’ve got 1 month and 5 days to figure something out ![]()

I noticed an odd site in my stats today so I went to see what it was - some ass clown had taken a picture I posted a LONG time ago of my double jointed fingers, and posted it to a site of double joined people, and all sorts of weird bendy body stuff. There were even COMMENTS on my picture. Read the rest of this entry »

It wasn’t as big of a success as I had hoped for. It was hot, we were sweaty, and the clues were HARD. We did find the box after we cheated a little bit. The park was nice and had all of these little info signs all over telling you what kind of flora and fauna and wildlife were to be found in the park. No sooner did we pass (and read) the sign warning about cottonmouth snakes…
yep, a big ole huge black snake crossed our path. It could have been a harmless black snake, it could have been a poisonous cottonmouth - I wasn’t staying to find out!
That’s the second snake I’ve seen in a week - obviously I’m hanging outside WAY too much and need to confine myself indoors.

I missed music monday yesterday. Monday should come later in the week!
The kids and I are going Letterboxing this afternoon. It’s geo-caching for po’ people…no GPS needed.
I took the kids to McD’s yesterday for lunch with friends and we drove home in a monsoon. No need to run the sprinklers this week!
I got back in touch with my best friend from high school yesterday! Thank you internet, for helping me to stalk people.
The kids are in vacation bible school this week. It’s a nice 3 hour break for me, and a chance to meet new kids for them. Win-win, baby!
13 boxes left to unpack.
1 month, 1 week, and 1 day til my birthday. Start shopping.

Saturday night we had our first official “house party”. I’m sure my mom (next door) loved it, with our drinking, smoking, and loud music blaring. At least we refrained from jumping in her pool at midnight, right??
We had 4 other couples over for an impromptu cookout - everyone brought some food or beer or booze and we served burgers and I made homemade blueberry cobbler. As the night wore on, we got sillier and sillier…and it was so fun! Tequila shots all around! We dragged the firepit out in the yard so that all of us could hang out (because as big as I think my lanai is, it’s not big enough for 10 grown ups and 5 children) and ended up roasting marshmallows and trying not to burn ourselves. I couldn’t find a fire log at any of the local stores, so we used sticks and pinecones from the woods, and left bottles all over the yard like the white trash that we are.
I think that made the party a success, is that at one point, I was wearing a bra that wasn’t mine, and the bra owners husband was wearing MY bra. Yes, I think that will be my new benchmark for all parties. Did you wear a bra that wasn’t your own? Success.
