Last night as Catherine and I drove to dinner with friends, we passed a horrible accident involving a motorcycle and a car. It had literally happened just moments before we came to the intersection, and we had to drive within 10 feet of the wreckage. We saw the victims receiving CPR and I told Catherine to say a prayer… Read the rest of this entry »

Someone loves me: I know this hip, cool, cute, skinny chick from NPR. She’s a rowdy good time, quick witted and a ton of fun wrapped up in a little package.

Big time fun at the menstuation tea this afternoon!!

First, we all filtered in and sat down. My first seat was next to this 60-ish grandma and her grand-daughter. Before the program started, she started this horribly embarrassing conversation with her grand-daughter, asking “So, do you have YOUR period yet, honey?” It was so mortifying, I had to move! I couldn’t imagine EVER asking that in public. I felt so bad for that little girl!

We watched this horrible video from the 80’s called “I Got It!” which was made by Procter and Gamble I think? The mom in it makes a diagram of ovaries and fallopian tubes on her GRIDDLE using PANCAKE BATTER! (I can never eat pancakes again). The whole thing was like watching a 20 minute long commercial for Always - happy people smiling, talking about periods over breakfast….ACK!

It was so contrived and hokey and I was the only mom trying to stifle a laugh, proving without a shadow of a doubt that something is wrong with me. Best scene - talk about vaginal dischange in the kitchen when “Dad” comes home from the grocery store with maple syrup for those ovaries, and a big package of ALWAYS pads.

I felt like the whole tea should have had a sign saying “Sponsered by Always”. The school nurse held up this life saved model of the human body and actually demo-ed how to put in a tampon. My eyes, my EYES!! And she had a whole table full of pads and went into detail on what SHE prefers…TMI, TMI!! The worst thing was when she pulled out a pair of panties and actually showed us how a pad with wings fit onto them.

I just want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon. I’m scared for life.

Days? More like weeks. Is it a full moon? At what point do you stop saying things are just coincidence and starting wondering what the hell you’re doing wrong? Read the rest of this entry »

We had a busy weekend, again. My friend Sindy was in town with her family. Thursday after they arrived we all went to Jack Willies for dinner. We had a crowd of 13 (more kids than adults!) for dinner but the kids got over their initial shyness and got along famously, as did the moms and dads.

On Friday I played hooky from work and we all went out boating and ended up at Caladesi Island. Once again, I’m amazed by how beautiful this area is. The end of the island we beached at was pratically deserted and we had a fantastic time. I’m lucky to have all of this so close to me, and even luckier to have friends with a boat. HA! Friday evening we had a cookout at my house, and on Saturday I took Sindy to the new house. Phew!

Saturday night we went to dinner and out to bowl with the local gang. The bowling alley was pretty skanky, but the price was right. We didn’t get home til almost midnight though, and poor Jim had to get up at 2:30am to be to work by 4am. He told me today he’s getting too old for that nonsense! I slept in til 10-ish…and we missed church. Whoops!! To be fair, I was UP at 8am and prepared to go. But when I tried to wake up Catherine, who is usually my early bird, she said “I’m tired” and rolled over to go back to sleep. So it was her fault we missed church ;-)

It’s nice having the house to myself today!

I hate when people are JUST vague enough to make me wonder if we’re both talking/thinking/writing about the same thing. Well, they’re writing it, not me….I’m too blunt. I don’t blog to leave out details - if anything, I include too many.

I hate being clueless and the last person to know everything, and basically in the dark. It all goes back to my brutal honesty theory - if you don’t like me, that’s FINE - just let me know so we’re both on the same page, because I can’t handle it any other way. This stealthy clock and daggar stuff gets to me. Nothing irritates me more than reading a vague blog entry without details, which leaves me wondering (once again) what people are talking about. I need details people! Read the rest of this entry »
