Dear Richard,

I watched 2 episodes of Flip This House last night, and I can’t help but think I could do better than some of your staff. For example - your brother and the $40K bill for the Rock Hill house? That house was a clear and simple sugar coat - it didn’t need the fancy landscaping, or the sink ripped out, or the crown molding. I know John is your brother and all, but that was a very expensive mistake. I admire you for being able to work it out with the contractors!

Then I watched the Folly Island episode. Dang…Kevin needed a full time hard ass on site with him to talk him out of a few things. He treated that flip like his own personal project - rule #1 of flipping - don’t put emotion into it!! You’re a good man, and a lucky man, that you’re in the position to hold on to a house for $10K a month to keep a friend happy.

So Richard, here’s the deal - I’m volunteering to come up for a short flip - perhaps 5 days or so, to show Trademark Properties what I can do. Why me?

1. I’m a mother of three. In my house, I’m the hard ass. The kids know to go to Daddy first if they want something, because I’m not a soft touch. (Just the kind of thing you need for a contractor like Britt who submits invoices for pizza and Pepsi!) I don’t take any crap!

2. I’ve got good taste - but not expensive taste. (Cristal on a Pabst Blue Ribbon budget!)

3. I can be on site daily to get the job done - no taking off to go 4 wheeling in the mud, or skeet shooting for this girl! Strictly business til the job is done.

4. I’m quick on my feet - remember the stakeout with Kevin? I could have caught that thief!!

5. You can pay me with my weight in food and sweet tea.

6. I’m as cute as Ginger, but with more sass. I curse like a truck driver. My husband describes me as “fiery”. Translation = good TV!

Think it over Richard - you know how to find me!

I have a little problem. I just cleaned out my closet, and I think my shopping is getting out of hand. The floor of my walk in closet looked like an Old Navy barfed on it. Bags, receipts, sweaters I had shipped to me STILL in the packaging! I counted, and I have 24 pairs of shoes. Everything from fuck me pumps, to knee high boots, to $100 sneakers (still unworn!). I even have 2 pairs of Doc Martens that haven’t fit me since I had kids. One is a pair of black boots that I got when I was 17, the other is a pair of oxblood red low risers that I bought in Galway, Ireland. I think I’m the only person I know who keeps shoes for sentimental reasons!

For someone who goes to the office all of once per week, I’ve got enough to keep an entire office in clothing for a month. WTH do I buy so much? Two reasons I think:

1) Not having my OWN house right now is keeping me from buying house stuff. I refuse to buy a damn thing for a house that isn’t built yet.

2) Any time I get bummed / sad / moody - I shop. It makes me feel better for a bit. I don’t feel so hot when my charge card bill comes, but I figure as long as I’m paying it off montly, I’m good. I’m certainly not at a “Save Karyn” type level yet, so no intervention is needed! (My income isn’t enough to screw myself that badly). At least I recognize my trigger, right??

I’ve bought so much stuff recently, I’m out of hangers!

Whoever put white 8×8 tile in the foyer, kitchen, dining area, master bath, and laundry room of this rental house - they should be shot.

Well, forced to clean the tile, and THEN shot.

Laura was right - Delsym is the bomb! I picked up some today at Publix. I haven’t coughed since. It does taste a little funky…almost like a shot. I didn’t mind though - anything is better than that awful cherry Nyquil I’ve been downing for 4 days.

We’ve got a busy weekend planned. Some fun, some not too fun. (Wah - I’d rather be in Denver!)

Friday night not only do we have the boys hockey practice, but after that the man and I have a big hoity toity retirement party to go to. The director of religious education at our church is finally retiring. How long has seen been there? Long enough that I was in her very first 1st Holy Communion class. The idea of a retirement party sounds fun, but since it’s a church party, it means I’ve got to behave. And I find that so, very, very hard to do. Making nice with people for a few hours is hard work!

Saturday morning and afternoon will be devoted to cleaning up this sty of a house. I’m about 5 days behind on laundry and everything else due to my trip and being sick. I didn’t even feed my kids a real dinner tonight - I just tossed pizza rolls at them. Bad mommy!

Saturday night is MY time baby! We’re meeting a bunch of friends for dinner and then lazer tag. I am unbelievably competitive, so this is right up my alley. It brings out my inner 4th grade boy.

Sunday will be walking 4 or 5 miles with my sister to train for our walk. I think we’re going to meet a friend at Chili’s that evening for some happy hour drinkies.

Note to self: pick up the kick ass cough syrup everyone keeps raving about, so as not to scare people away with the hacking.

I’m probably the only person who has EVER been happy when homebuilding goes sloooooow. Nothing has changed since our pre dry-wall meeting 2 weeks ago, and we’re thrilled about it. Once drywall starts, we know we’re 8 to 10 weeks from closing, and being that we don’t want to move til school is over, we are really hoping to close mid-May.

We’re waiting on the frame inspection right now, and after that they’ll do the insulation and inspect that, and only THEN can drywall start. 8 weeks from today puts us at April 20th, and 10 weeks is May 4th. So even if drywall starts next week, we’re still in good shape for a May closing…yay!

I was whining to Laura this weekend about my ringtones on my phone sounding like cheesy midis. After exploring the T-Mobile website, I discovered my ring tone doesn’t have to suck - I just needed to look in the Hi-Fi area.

I am now the proud owner of a $1.99 ring tone featuring “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt. Laura gave me a fabulous mix CD with the song on it, and I just can’t stop playing it. So now I can be entertained when people call me!

I was talking to my BFF Shannon today and she said something to the effect of, “I lead a charmed life”. I asked her what she meant…and she explained I am a very, VERY lucky girl with the things I do, the places I go, and the rest of my life. I tend to agree with her.

So I’m changing the tagline on the blog. It used to be:
There’s no middle ground here - you either love me or you hate me.

The new one is:
Leading a charmed life since 1976.

Whatcha think?

This weekend was the best weekend I can remember in a long, LONG time. It’s so hard to come home after a weekend like that! It’s such a downer to go back to the real world - home, kids, a job.

Laura’s got most of the pictures on her website and I’ve got skiing pictures here.

The weekend started off badly. My flight out of Tampa was delayed for FOUR hours while we waited for a flight attendant to come in from Chicago. I’ve got to write United a nasty-gram regarding that whole mess. So I was damn tired when I finally got into Denver. When I went to bed, it was 5:30 Florida time. EEK!

We just took it easy Saturday morning until Laura’s friend (and I guess my friend too, now) Mike came to pick me up to go rent ski crap. After that we met back up with the girls, and Laura’s friend Ed at Hooter’s. After Hooter’s, we went to the bar to drink and dance. I was drinking pretty hard, but trying desperately to commit every moment to memory. It was just one of those nights.

I got all of 5 hours sleep on Saturday night - it seems my internal clock was still on Florida time, so I popped right out of bed at 7am. Mike and I headed up to Loveland for skiing. The day could have not been more perfect - cold, mostly clear - a bit of powdery snow. The slopes weren’t crowded at all, and I love those mile long runs down the mountain. I am forever greatful to Mike for taking me! We did 5 runs of so and called it quits - the night before was catching up with us. On our way back to Denver, we stopped at TommyKnocker Brewery in Idaho Springs for some beer and lunch.

On Monday my wild ways caught up with me for good, and I slept in hard. Laura and I went to the mall and Target and enjoyed some quiet girly time. The flight home sucked 10 kinds of ass. My sniffles turned into a full on head cold and my ears never popped. Miserable. I’m on three kinds of medicine now though, so life is looking up.

It was sooo good to hang out with the girls and get away from being Mommy for a while!

Dude. I am SICK!! I started feeling all sniffly in Denver on Monday and was feeling like the living dead by the time I got home around 1am last night.

I called into work and went to the doctor. Diagnosis is a sinus infection plus tons of fluid buildup in my eardrums due to flying like this. (Thank god, no eardrum rupture!)

More on the trip when I don’t feel like ass.
