I don’t think I mentioned anything here about the boys allergy testing. This spring, he started sneezing and coughing and having runny/watery eyes. We went to the allergist my mom goes to and he said he would do the testing so that we could find out what was triggering all of this. But - because Matthew is only 6, he won’t do the weekly shots to overcome the allergies. (Fine by me - who wants to torture a 6 year old with weekly shots?)

The allergy testing in itself was a nightmare. They did 20 scratches on his back to put the allergens on and actually drew blood….poor little guy. Then he couldn’t do anything for 15 minutes so we could see which spots reacted. As BAD as his allergies are, he’s only allergic to three things. 2 different kinds of dust mites, and cockroaches.

COCKROACHES? WTH? I don’t even think I’ve seen one in my house since we moved in! The allergist explained that it doesn’t mean that is what is affecting him right now - it just means it IS something he is allergic too. So no pet cockroaches for Matthew. Heh!

We’ve got a pretty good handle on the dust in our house. It bothers me too and I suspect it would show up if I were tested. We only have carpet in the bedrooms and we have wood laminate everywhere else. The only thing the doctor really recommended was getting the alllergen covers for Matthew’s mattress and pillow. I did that today. He does cough a lot in the morning so the pillow and the dust mites inside it (ick, ick, ICK!) are probably the cause. I know I could wash the pillow daily and there would STILL be dust mites in it but it still creeps me out.

Anyway…so, new stuff for the bedding, and continue the Zyrtec nightly. Wheeeeeeee! I’m inspired to get my own testing done instead of just continuing to guess at what I’m allergic too. (I think dust, cats, cut grass, bees, wasps, some flowers and weeds, and housework. HEH!)
