« It’s Going to be a LOOONNNGGG Week | Back to Main Page | Not Comfy »

My 13 year old niece has a fascination with the band Green Day. The way she goes on about the boys, you’d think she discovered them last week. I was talking to her at the boy’s birthday party and surprised her by mentioning that I’ve seen them in concert. After she got over her initial shock of realizing I like some of the same music she does, despite our 15 year age difference, she started asking me questions - where, when…?

I told her Jim and I saw them 11 YEARS ago as an opening act for Nine Inch Nails at the Florida State Fairgrounds. It was a general admission show and one of my first and only times in the mosh pit. She did a double take upon realizing that the band has been around for “THAT LONG” (as she put it). I had to take her down another notch by letting her know that the object of her affections, aka the lead singer Billie Joe, is older than ME and old enough to be her father practically…and he’s got a son just a few years younger than her.

<Nelson>Ha, ha!</nelson>

I love doing that shit.
