Is it that hard to say thank you? Maybe I’m just cranky (entirely possible!) but in the past few weeks I’ve noticed less and less people in the service industry saying thank you to customers. I’ve worked as a cashier and saying it was automatic. Smile when the customer approaches, ask how you can help them, hand them a receipt/change, smile, and thank them. Yet I find myself saying thank you to the cashier more and more often, with a blank stare in return. Or I go passive agressive on them and say “You’re welcome!” in a big loud sing song voice.
