My grandfather broke his hip 2 weeks ago and my mom and I were due to fly out Thursday to go visit him. I found a great fare online and arranged all my childcare.

He died last night. So now all of our plans are up in the air and the funeral date is TBD. I had to call my cousin today and tell him. I am happy my kids got to go to see my grandpa in December for a last visit.

I should add that when my grandmother died, I was on vacation, on my way to see her. I’m some sort of jinx!

I would like to think that if John Kerry had been elected President, he’d have the sense to not interrupt my Thursday night CBS lineup with a press conference. Save that shit for the daytime when I’m at work.

Ok, so I lied. In my post below when I said I was planning my sit on my ass weekend, I lied. My friends Shannon & Shane and their little guy are planning to go to Disney that weekend and asked me to tag along with my kids. Poor Jim has to work. (He’s heartbroken to miss out on “the rat”, as he calls it.)

So we just booked our hotel and we’re making plans. Star Wars weekend starts that weekend at MGM, so we may hit that, but with the movie coming out that week I’m sure it will be packed!

I love it when my boss works from home, because it means I get to as well! He stayed home yesterday and today, and so am I. Anytime I can avoid that 60+ mile round trip commute I’m a happy girl! And Jim is home today so we get to be home together. Friday is my regular day to work at home, so I’ll only be in the office 2 days this week. Score!

God I love my job.

2 weekends ago it was a wedding in Utah.
This weekend it was Sea World and a dinner show in Orlando.
Next weekend is 1st Communion.
The weekend after that I’ll be in New Jersey checking on my grandfather, who is in the hospital for a broken hip.
And the weekend after THAT is the spring piano recital and the baby boys 6th birthday party.

So the weekend after THAT I am not scheduling a damn thing. It’s my official “Sit On My Ass & Do Nothing For 36 Hours” plan.

I had a delightful visit with Kim and her family this weekend. Well worth the 4 plane rides and 5 hours of layover :-)

The mountains were spectacular and the company was fabulous but it’s nice to be back home. Jim says he missed me - the kids just wanted to know what I brought them.

After we went to Busch Gardens on Sunday, my mom took us out to lunch at TGI Friday’s. The kids love to play Hangman on the placemats when we eat out to keep themselves busy til the food arrives. Matthew is getting into it now too because he can spell so many words on his own. He was playing with my mom and his word was HAT. My mom was “playing dumb” so to speak so the game would last a bit longer and he was just thrilled she hadn’t guessed his word yet. He decided to give her a hint, because she only had guessed the letter “A” and was about to be hung.

So he says:

“The next letter is NOT a vowel. It’s a consequence.”

Hard to keep a straight face after that!

Today is my anniversay - 9 years of marriage! My husband said to me on the phone this morning, “Wow, did you ever think we’d make it 9 years?”

I replied “No, I was hoping for 4 or 5 good years at the most.”

Without skipping a beat, he said, “And you’re still waiting for those!”

This is why we get along so well - we both have the same sick sense of humor :-)
