2 weeks and a day til my closing! I dropped off the check for the appraisal to our new and improved mortgage broker this afternoon. Last night before class I stopped at Lowe’s and priced out some things we want for the house - french doors off the family room, new molding thru out, a new fan for the living room…and picked out some paint chips also to take to the house and check out what kind of light it gets. Can’t wait to go in there and spend some cash on the new place!

Pheeeeeeeeew. Our agent just called to tell me the news. We ended up having to write a whole new offer based on the new mortgage broker. Thanks to a recommendation from a friend, we found a new broker (one who had her shit together) in record time. She was able to get us the terms we needed and it just required rewriting the offer and tweaking it a bit - sellers are getting the same amount of money for the house but we’re paying less in closing now. Anyway, our agent just called and gave me the good news - they accepted the new offer. I was worried that there would be a backup offer waiting in the wings and we wouldn’t get our house. I’m so glad that’s over and done with! Now I’ve got a stack of paper work from our lender to complete, an old creditor to call and bitch to (Nissan thinks we still owe $200 on a lease we turned in 2 years ago), but I’m happy to do it all.

My mother took the kids to visit my father tonight, so I got to take my sweet time getting home. Stopped and picked up some new mortgage paperwork from our new broker and stopped at a friends. Arrived home to a completely empty, and more importantly, a quiet house. There’s a new edition of Maxim calling my name!

I promised you an update on the house, didn’t I?
The inspection went ok. A few minor things to be fixed, and our contact states the sellers will fix up to $1000 worth, which should cover everything. We (or rather our agent) faxed them a list of the repairs to be done.
Our mortgage broker is a completely different mess.

I hate the listing agent of the home we’re buying. She’s a real PITA. We accepted the sellers counteroff, at which point she was (and I’m told this is the norm) to change the status of the house in the MLS to “under contract”. She decided instead she wanted a letter of committment from our lender, which we provided on Thursday. I called our agent today to let her know about the inspection this week and she said the listing agent is now saying she’s not going to change the status of the home until after our inspection. ARGH!
It may seem silly, but we have a contract, and I just don’t want anyone else roaming thru *MY* house looking at it and envisioning their crap in it. I know we have a contract and even if someone offered them more money at this point, they can’t take it, but still….I just feel she’s being a real bitch about the whole thing.
Inspection is Tuesday so she’d better change it then!

1. Name five things in your refrigerator: 12 pack of Coke, 12 pack of Coors light (conveniently located in the crisper drawer), hiney suppositories for sick children (not used in 2 years), 2 gallons of milk (the norm for a family of 3 children), leftover spaghetti from tonights dinner.
2. Name five things in your freezer: Eggo waffles, 2 kinds of Breyers ice cream, frozen pork chops, Pizza Rolls, Uno frozen pizza I bought at the school market day
3. Name five things under your kitchen sink: Huge tub of dishwasher soap. copper cleaner, a crockpot, 5 lb bag of potatoes, Clorox bleach cleaner in a spray bottle (my favorite!)
4. Name five things around your computer: The boy’s train table, a purple bean bag, a CD stand holding lots of games and music, my credit card bill, ornament hooks left over from Christmas.
5. Name five things in your medicine cabinet: Visine, birth control pills, Bath and Body Works lotion in Peach and Cucumber, bottle of hardly touched Ck1, bandaids in every shape and size.

Back to work tomorrow for me. I’ve taken 2 1/2 days off this week and enjoyed it, even if it was due to one of the children racking up a huge ER bill.

I think someone has a little cabin fever. I’m home for the 2nd day in a row with the green eyed girl. Awful mommy that I am, I made her take a bath! You’d have thought I was pushing her into a pot of boiling oil. She’s getting cranky and whiny. Her older cousin is coming over tonight to have a sleepover (and entertain her tomorrow) so we made a deal - no nap, no cousin. Guess who’s sleeping now? The dog is curled up at the foot of her bed snoozing along with her…awww.

So the mortgage lady that prequalified us for our next home was nice enough to fax me a handy dandy list of things we need to get our paperwork in order. Yes, the task falls to me because I’m the anal one concerning about getting this done ASAP. First order of business - a quick trip to visit the Social Security Administration to request a social security card for my husband. Don’t ask me how we were able to buy a home in the past, because in the 10 years I’ve known the man, I’ve never known him to have a social security card.
We’ve got to print out the form and then take it to the local office in person with proof of identity to get a replacement card. And the big shocker - it takes only 2 weeks to get the new card! The government moving at a semi speedy pace? I am full of shock and awe.
